My manager at work said his paypal got hacked. He asked us to make sure that if we used PP to add 2FA.
I logged in, no 2FA, BUT....someone had deposited a LARGE amount of money in my account.
They did this is Jan, and I only logged in today. This person asked for a refund on Jan 3rd. Oooooooopsie.
I was just wondering if this was a PCFer or not.

Careful, not sure if you're already thinking this way but this is a very popular scam.

Send lots of money fraudulently (from a stolen account or something), then ask for a refund to a different account. First transaction may be reversed but the money you sent is scooped out.

The money was in my account. I pressed on the refund button, and it went out. Nothing "looked" scammy.

Absolutely! Hopefully just a coincidence but like you said, keep an eye on it for a while. You're a good person to send it back.

I lean paranoid so I would change your password as well, just for fun. I've got 2-factor authentication on mine.

Edit: little extra article. Yours doesn't sound exactly the same since its back to the same account, but its a way of washing that money from a hacked account. A work friend has had a similar experience.

Just to echo @NotRealNameNoSir. It’s possible the text from your boss is not from your boss. I hope everything is on the up and up, but as mentioned above, this sounds sketchy.

Edit. I’m guessing it wasn’t a phone call from your boss. I would call him/her to double check.

The manager messaged the team on MS Teams, so that part was very legit.
