The National Poker Series set. Gorgeous. Amazing. Beautiful. Sexy.

Simple the best feeling chip I have ever had the pleasure to touch.

Since Paulson will likely never made home chips again, I guess my question is: other than CPC, will there ever be a player in the home market that ever comes close to this ungodly quality?

Am I doomed to scrape together Paulsons from buyers as the prices continue to skyrocket?

:(

Well Mike...

I scraped together an awesome cash set. Oddly enough, I got 1200 of them, then searched for a year + with no results... I thought I'd never find any more (they done dried up), but in recent months, I've acquired 800 more of them, for a set of over 2000 Cash Paulson chips!

Now, cash sets are ONE thing, but if you want a Paulson tournament set, you're going to pay a LOT more. As the higher denoms (usually more rare and in nicer less used condition) are often MUCH costlier. I would love a nice Paulson tourney set, but the reality is I can buy a custom brand new set of CPC chips (in any amount) for less than a Paulson tourney set.

I still own a nice set of Milano china clays, which I use when traveling, but will transition to using my FT chips for all my home tournaments (once they arrive).

Pics. Did happen :)

I'm waiting for 400 more in the mail. From 3 different persons on this forum.

I'm doomed!!!

I only have 45 brand new 1s but larger more diverse chips are coming.

To somewhat answer your question, there is still a however small chance Paulson could always do another run of home chips in the future.. They have a couple of "home chip molds" they will never use for casinos, and They have the NPS, WTHC , 007 & others ..
it may eventually be a matter of money if they do.. Is there a wholesaler willing to order a couple hundred thousand or more chips in one shot ...
Another "possibility" is the clay chip equipment PGI has in FLa, that they again recently said they want to get going this year. .

So if I place an order for 100,000 chips, you think Paulson will entertain my order?

Even though money talks with sales reps, you may have to come in asking for a quarter million chips..
Let us know how it goes. :)

I am going to go look in my piggy bank and see if I have $200,000 in there.

I am interested in knowing more about this "clay chip equipment" PGI has...

PGI has the entire setup - compression molding equipment, automated lathe, punch press w/multiple punches, etc. As far as I'm aware they only have one mold, though - a scroll mold. But yeah, it's the full lineup of gear. The problem is that manning the gear takes people and time, and compression clay chips isn't their primary line of business. If they put someone or someones on their compression line then those same resources aren't on their bread n butter line.

They've stated publicly that they'd like to sell the equipment as a whole to the right buyer - someone not just w/the funds (which, in the grand scheme of things, wouldn't be all that much), but more importantly the time/skills/desire to make it all work. There's not exactly a long list of folks that meet that criteria. Hell, there's not really a short list, either. But the opportunity is there.

Out of curiosity, I contacted GPI to see what number would get their factories rolling again for Paulson home sets.

I will let you know what I get back ;)

I've always wanted to diversify my business interests... Poker chip making sounds like a blast...

So I heard back from GPI and they basically said what we all expected them to say.

Paraphrasing:

"Sorry, we do not offer home sets anymore or sell to the general public. However here is a link to a reseller: http://www.gemacocards.com/promotional/products/poker-chips/ "

Now I am not sure what this is or why they gave me this link but it's certainly not what I was expecting.

I replied with a long essay about how thousands of potential chip enthusiasts are dying to have Paulson come back to the home market with their sets and that they should re explore that sector as it's still a viable avenue for significant revenue.

I don't know whether they will believe me but I tried!

I did not know that Gemaco is a GPI brand. Those promotional poker chips may be worth a look or at least a sample set

No...no they most definitely aren't. They're plastic and feel cheap as hell...not like a nice Bud Jones, Matsui, or Abbiati. Some of them are also slugged, and have a feel to them that's little different than the ABS chips with labels on them. They do make a casino line of chips as well, but I've never seen them actually being used in a casino - and I kid you not, if I ever did see them, I wouldn't play there for that reason alone.

Hi MD Mike

ahhh home paulsons.... i remember my TH&C set. it was a gateway into a nasty expensive addiction that lasts with me till today. Minty chalky Paulsons... Mmmmmmmmmm. The Holy Grail in my chip addiction.

Mike you should have spoken to me before buying these because your path in the chip world is now very dark. If i never knew the feel of paulsons my life would have been very different. Yes it may have been a little more financially viable not to ever touch a paulson however it would have been a sad and mostly dissapointing chip life.

Good luck sir. your wallet and wife will hate you. But the good news is you just made a new friend.

Welocme aboard the Paulson Bus to financial oblivion.

When is the next Chip room sale!!!!!

Speaking of the Chip Room, did that place evaporate? The web site is gone and the owner (whose name escapes me) seems to have gotten trapped in a black hole somewhere.

Someone claimed that he shut down the web storefront because the sales from it no longer covered the maintenance expense, but that he's still looking for chips and will continue to sell them via forums/Paypal links as he's done for the past year or so.

Well I certainly don't want it to be true!

Can anyone else chime in? :(
I've been wondering the same thing. Once I got back into poker I checked a few sites including Apache and The Chip Room. I was kinda shocked to see the Chip Room closed. Wasn't sure if it was for good or what was happening.
