Hello everybody.
I have been researching an upgrade to my "dice" poker chip set for a couple of weeks now. I eventually found these forums by recommendation from the /r/poker subreddit. After lurking for a week or so, I decided to create an account and thought I would give an introduction.
I run a monthly home game where we play cash micro stakes (10c/25c with $20-40 buy-in). I keep the stakes low since some of my regular players can't afford much higher and it is still a lot of fun regardless. However, I am at the point where I would like nicer chips, preferably with denominations.
Since I use a 10c small-blind, I'm very limited on the stock sets available. I have ordered samples of the CC Pharaoh, Majestic, Milano, Royals and Tiki Kings. The Milano and Royals do not have a 5c chip, but I still wanted to see what they feel like in person.
After seeing all of the beautiful Paulsons and even some of the ones produced by ASM, I can see why people pay up for them. I'm actually a coin collector as well, so the idea of collecting them for aesthetic appeal is not lost on me. I personally like the Paulson Pharaoh's quite a bit, but the idea of shelling out $1500 for a set of 500 isn't something my wife is going to entertain at the moment.
