So I first went after the Kenmore Lanes chips because of the blue $1 chip. But then the more I learned about these chips and where they come from, I just wanted more of them. Then, what can I say? The typical happened, and now I have a set of them.

The set is mixed Paulson/ASM due to the $1s. The first few I picked up were ASM, but then I stumbled across the Paylson versions before filling out the rest of the set in ASMs.

Does anyone know the full story behind those? If there are Paulsons of the other chips out there I'd like to see them.

The colors tend to be a bit darker than I'd probably prefer, even after cleaning and stuff. But I like the color combos and the story of the chips enough to keep them in rotation.

Through picking up different sets I sort of ended up with lots of $5s...

I could use a few more hundos and $25s, but not really a big deal. More than enough to play with, and I like having the set.

Kenmores don't seem super popular/well used. For those that know chip sets better than me, are there any other sets out there that come to mind like these? The stories behind the chips interest me too.

Anyway, that's another set I have. Thanks for reading!

Thanks for sharing the pics!

are there any other sets out there that come to mind like these?

Sets that are similar to the Kenmores how? Split mold? Garden City and Lucky Derby come to mind (Paulson/BCC). Bowling alley sets? Bremerton Lanes is the first one that comes to mind because of the inlay, but also Cascade Lanes by Bud Jones. Under-appreciated? It's possible that Freddie's could fall into that category.

Anywho, if you could clarify what you mean by sets "like these" I'm guessing the folks here could list some sets that fit the bill.

I think I was thinking along the lines of under appreciated, but those others apply too :)

Kenmores seem to fly a little under the radar, but I'm sure everyone has a favorite set that does too.

I played a lot at Kenmore. It was one of the rooms that allowed 18 year olds to play, which was awesome because they go on uber girly like none other. It was strictly low limit Hold'em. At the height of the boom they had 6 tables, and that is where the Paulson chips came from. Because the largest game I saw in there was $4/$8 with 6 tables going they needed more chips. That is also why the Paulson chips are in better shape. They were only in play for a couple years.

As far as another example of an "under the radar" set, the Bremerton Lanes chips were offered at the same time as the Kenmores from the Chip Room IIRC and I always liked both. @courage bought a set for a friend or facilitated his friend's purchase. Even though the chips were a bit beat up, I have considered going after some of them as I really like the $5.

Great pr0n, @jbutler We played with the Bremertons Saturday nite at one of my franchise locations (TM-lol). They're beat up but I really like the look of the $1, 5, and hundo, which is in awesome shape. I wish she had a couple more racks of $5's (she has 320) but it works ok for one table donkfest.

Which reminds me, I love raising pre in Lazy Pineapple with AKJ, flopping A8T, leading for $50, then a call and two all-ins, one who has me covered lol. I folded and went on to a small win. The hostess flopped bottom 2 pair and proceeded to win $800. Yay poker.

One possible reason for them being under-appreciated is that people might not want poker chips from a bowling alley, even if it has a poker room.

@ChipEnvy

Sounds awesome, thanks for the background. I love the chips even more when there's a story attached to them.

True, which was my initial reaction when offered by The Chip Room. But I liked the colors, and as jbutler pointed out to me at the time, once you embrace the seedy degeneracy, you appreciate them.

I always liked the asm Kenmores also, but already had asm customs so gravitated to Bremertons.

I actually do like that these sets are from bowling alleys. Then again, my custom chips are from a strip club, so my standards are admittedly quite different. As courage said, you have to embrace the seediness.

Nice big set, Fleming! Thanks for the pics. What games are you playing?

Thanks! We play NLHE and PLO, usually small stakes, but I'm also looking to get a group playing slightly meatier stakes here soon.

Same goes for tournaments, which we'll stick to when we have a larger table full. Our typical games are just the 4-6 of us though.

I do like playing deep stacked though, and my players seem to like it too.

Well, just to be clear, I didn't call it anything.

And I really like the $100s from both Kenmore and Bremerton.

I'm sure we all have our likes and dislikes. I've said before that I don't care for chips without a location on them. And it's not just bowling alleys that bug me -- I don't like dice on a poker chip either, even in the mold. Or jockeys. Or horses, unless the label has a related theme.Even chips with Ace-Jack on them bug me, because that's blackjack. I guess I just like my chips to be focused on poker.

And that's a good thing, or I'd have nowhere to sleep.

Interesting...don't think I ever would have used the word "seedy" to describe a bowling alley, or even a card room therein. *shrug* Didn't even know that such a perception was out there. Just folks knockin' down pins and takin' down pots. Meh. Guess I'm learnin' every day!

I sure hope those bowling alley card rooms are soundproofed!

I grew up about a quarter mile from the then world's largest single-story bowling center, 110 lanes, and it was anything but seedy...except for maybe the bar room.

I love me some bowling but am not fond of well used chips....so I never went after any of these. There is one set of bowling chips I would love to have...Bart's Bowl-O-Rama , B Diamond mold ASM chips.

You guys are ruining my vision of Bremerton, syringes on the bathroom floor, hookers & blow in the parking lot.

Now it sounds like a grocery with a bank branch attached. ;)

Trust me @courage , nothing in Bremerton has much of a shine to it, especially the Bremmelos. ;)

You want Kenmore Lanes stories @Fleming ??? Stand by for incoming picture of a cop car that my buddy set a tent up on top of, it's the reason we had to leave quickly that night. :D

I wonder if we ever played together back in the day @ChipEnvy , I spent a good amount of time there as well.
