Hello all!

I've got two new sets of poker chips that should be ready for the next Group Buy @justincarothers is launching next week (May 2025).

The first set is called La Isla Del Encanto, inspired by my time in Puerto Rico (and my time married to a Puerto Rican lol). If any of you have ever been to Puerto Rico, you know there is a bit of "magic" and "love" in the air. The culture, the music, the food, the people, it really feels to me like the air is different there... the Salsa dancing... the water and the rainforest.... Puerto Rico is a very unique place, and appropriately considered The Island of Enchantment.

The chip set is made on 43mm textured no mold, and I tried to find an appropriate color to replicate a "light gold foil" hotstamp. (If anyone has an appropriate RGB or CMYK color that has worked well in the past for hotstamp text color feel free to send me a PM).

The set spans cash and tournament denominations. The mandate was to create chips that were:
1) Matte and more muted than my traditional bright and poppy color schemes,
2) Some more traditional CPC colors with some less traditional (non-existent) CPC colors, and
3) Color combinations that my wife likes

Overall I am really really excited about how this set came out, and I feel it is unique enough to not overly replicate other intact sets (as far as I can tell).

Billionaire Beach is a fun set using unique colors and edge spots that came about due to my experimentation with gradients. Many of my previous sets utilize gradients in the inlay (I love gradients), but this time I decided to segment the gradient into larger chunks of solid color instead of blending the colors smoothly. The result reminded me of a skyline on a beach, hence the theme for the set.

This set is built on 43mm textured web mold with 28mm inlays.

Edit: Special thanks to @Taxi500 for his critiques and opinions on this set as I developed it.

Love La Isla set....
Any chances for 25 chip for a cash set?

I figured if anyone is only buying the cash set they could use the T25 from the tourney set and update the text... or, I can make a $25 option from the blue $20 chip....

Or are you wanting an entirely different color combo?

that would do...

Very nice designs!
From a printing standpoint, though...the type on the La Isla chips will not print well. With dye-sub printing (as on the face of the no-molds) the ink tends to bleed a bit, and you will lose those thin lines on each letter completely. The small type and the frog graphic at the bottom will not print clearly either.

Also, even though the fidelity of the printing on hybrid labels is far superior to the dye-sub chip, I recommend the "Club & Lounge" type on the Billionaire Beach chips be made a bit thicker as well.

Sorry to be the messenger here of bad news, it looks like a lot of work went inti these! However, I think with a few tweaks you'll be able to get them where they print nicely.
Good luck!

Interesting thoughts. I'd be interested in seeing a sample of what you're referring to.... maybe Tina will let me print a few to test it. Do you have an example of the thinner text not printing well?

I'll try to see if I can find one example at work on Monday to send over.

I second that it should be have a thicker stroke so that's there's more "print area" essentially to get that hot stamp effect you're going for.

Here's a few examples, they’re either Tina or BR Pro, but the issue is not the vendor, but the process. Dye-sublimation is just not super detailed.
It's most apparent with a colored background and lighter thin lines, but the "bleeding" also happens with thin black lines on a white background.
Below is the art on the left and the printed on the right:

I am also worried about trying to replicate a metallic colour using non-metallic methods. It is possible (in the miniature painting world there are entire schools of thought on this), but dye sub printing likely won't give you the results you are looking for.

I’ve done some faux hotstamps on ceramics before, and it’s impossible for it to look right without using gradients. Gold as a flat color looks tan or brown, but it’s the mix of lights and darks that give it the impression of a reflective surface.
The first 2 were printed, the last one is just the art:

I've seen others, like the Aurora Star for example, that try to approximate a hot stamp, so I am curious if there are particular RGB values that work better than others. @Colquhoun's method is also something I can play around with.

Thank you for the examples @Colquhoun. I had a bit more belief in the printing ability for smaller detailed content after my Lunar Landing chips came out so well. But after looking closer at the font I do agree that the thinner parts may be problematic. I'm working on a way to make those lines thicker without losing the feel of the font. Appreciate the heads-up.
