Ok guys. Really leaning on you here. I recently sold my 1200 Paulson chips as I have another baby on the way and needed baby items for the house. Unfortunately it was literally the only chip set I had.
So basically I am hoping some of you guys have some budget sets you could throw at Me for consideration. I would still prefer to have decent quality chips obviously after having Paulson's I know that's asking a lot. But like no metal slug style chips please. I'm thinking maybe some respectable China clays or BCC or something along those lines. Looking forward to seeing what you guys have to offer. I'm looking for like 500-750 chips.
Thanks in advance

Cash set? Tourney? How many players? What stakes?

We usually play cash games. . 50-1 or like 1-2. Around 5-8 players. I could possibly make a tournament set work if I needed to. Trying not to be too picky.

The first things that come to mind are the Crazy Horse line and Scroll ceramic line, both sold by straightpokersupplies.com. A set of 500 Scroll ceramic chips would run about $250 CDN, and the Crazy Horse line (same as the Milano chips, but with an alternate label designed by J5) sells there for $44 per 100 chips.

Buying from there should save some duty/tax/import/whatever fees during shipping, and make the process go a little faster, too.

Buying anything from the US will kill you on the exchange rate right now, so Psypher1000's suggestions are good. Another decent budget ceramic line are the Laurel Crown's at MRCPoker. One of our players has a Crazy Horse set for cash games and the LC's for tournaments. Both are a step above slugged chips.

I notice so far a lot of ceramic lines have been brought up. Any reason why? Are they considered better quality? Never played with any before. And how is the glass like sound when playing with them? Also I would be willing to go as high as 300-350usd for a nice budget set

The lower-end ceramics tend to be priced near other budget chips like china clays. Ceramics are actually a polymer/resin/plastic. Sound is typically more of a clink vs a clack.

For 70c/chip shipped, you should be able to find a decent option. Even some custom ceramics are in that ballpark, or close to it. Check out OWPS.

It's really not that bad. It's not the full Paulson thud, of course, but nothing is. There's all kinds of international casinos that use them, so they can't be *that* bad. You get used to the sound, and after a while you may even start to prefer it.

Not really. The Crazy Horse line is the only china clay line available in Canada, and just trying to save you a few $$$ with a few other decent options. :) If you are open to purchasing in the US, then it opens the doors to a much larger market.

As far as the sound goes, different ceramics have a different sound/feel (GOCC, SunFly, ABC, PGI are all a little different). I have a decent Chipco set which I like.

Agreed. Perhaps the Rounders Replicas at OWPS (http://www.oldwestpokersupplies.com/shop/stock-ceramic-poker-chips/rounders-replicas). Since they have samples available, perhaps just order a sample set to see what they are like.

Those rounders replicas seem interesting. But are they smooth like all other ceramics? Pictures make it looks like it has texture. Anyone have a set of these?

I have a set of 500 super diamonds that are actually pretty decent chips IMO. You can have them super cheap if you want them. I can send pics tonight. Not sure what they're worth, but I'll give them to you for whatever you want to pay plus shipping.

Note, they're just blank solids. But they have a good feel to them. I actually decided to keep them over my previous set of 500 Roman Mold ASM chips because I preferred them over the ASMs... some call me crazy

I've got a nice set of All-In Chips, still in very good condition (played only two times). They are relatively new, but since the chips are rather soft, they tend to have scuff marks. $124USD + shipping if you want them.

120 x $1 (blue)
300 x $5 (pink)
150 x $25 (green)
40 x $100 (black)
10 x $500 (purple)
620 chips total

I also have a bunch of these....i think I have 120x blue, 220 black, 220 grey and 50 orange. Yours for 50USD + shipping.. none have labels though except the blue which are unopened. Good for labeling

I would appreciate that. Look forward to pics

Obviously, all of the options others have posted are going to be nicer than these. I assume these are made of plastic. But for a super cheap set, I actually think they have a decent feel to them when played. Here's what I have. No idea what they're worth, I bought them several years ago from a Billiard store in Seattle when I needed some chips for a poker night at a buddy's house and refused to play with those plastic red, white, and blue Bicycle chips you get from Walmart. I think I paid about $150 at the time? Not sure. Anyhow, if you want them, you can have them for 10c ea, unless they're worth less than that, in which case you can have them for pretty much whatever. But if you're trying to spend as little as possible, these might be a good option for you.

Counts:
200 Black
150 White
100 Green
25 Blue
25 Red

Case not included...

^Those requirements would rule out the super diamonds (cheap plastic, plus no denominations) and the Monaco chips (decent, but slugged).

Yea it's a tough middle ground. The crazy horse aren't bad. But of course the $25 chips are out of stock. Very respectable pricing though

Maybe I'm missing something nut wouldn't it be cheaper to order the Pharaohs from Apache? Apache has em for . 36 a chip and those are coming to about . 47 a chip at $300 for 630ish chips. Unless they are rare and not made anymore or something?

I hate milanos. Some people love 'em. Not me.

Also what are your thoughts on a Milano set of 750 chips in these denoms:
200-.25
200-1
100-5
100-25
100-100
50-500

For $175usd all in?

I loved my Milanos and still don't hesitate to recommend them, although I'd rate the Majestics superior in nearly every way. Others can't stand them (see BG's opinion above). As deals go, and assuming the $5's fit 20 to a barrel (some didn't), that deal you're considering is a good one. You'll need to be the one to judge if the breakdown works for your game.

All things being equal, I'd choose Laurel Crowns/Scrolls/other quality ceramics over any CC set - the scent of the CC's really is off-putting for me. That Milano deal will give you better value for the dollar, though, and given il bambino's pending arrival, I'd pinch pennies where you can.

I recently bought from Apache the Majestics (36c each).
For the price I find they are a blast.
And the good thing is that you can have plaques or dealer button which fit.

I hesitate with the Pharaoh which are at the same price.

I don't think you can be wrong with these chips !

There's a thread somewhere on here that I posted regarding the Majestics vs Pharaohs. Cliff notes: I bought a set of both and ended up returning the Majestics because the labels are too big for the inlays. It's a minor flaw to some, but for others it's a major flaw. For me, it was a deal breaker. They're otherwise great chips. I really like the CC Pharaohs though. Good value IMO. I'd prefer them over a set of ceramics personally.

I'd rank chips as follows.

1) TRKs

2) Bud Jones with graphic inlays
3) Bud Jones Brass CICs

4) Paulsons

4) BCCs

5) CC Pharaohs
6) Other China Clays

7) Ceramics

8) Giant inlay Paulsons :)

Not sure if I've ever seen C&Js before though
