Hey everyone, the luxor 1s are one of my favorite chips but was curious how much harder it would be to source 2 racks of the original large inlay vs the newer small ones. Looks like from chipguide the large was only produced for 6 years while the smaller is around much longer. Not sure so wanted to get some opinions

They're out there, I can check to see if we have any at my work and let you know!

I harvested just over 200 last year. There was 1 large inlay in the lot. It's gonna take awhile . . .

Here's the haul from Sept. '24

Thanks everyone, you are all reinforcing my thoughts that it would just make more sense to try and nab small inlays instead. Just didn't want to start hunting for only the large one’s and it end up being a nightmare trying to fill a set with them.

For what's it's worth, the chips are still fairly sharp, some shiny white! GLWS

My thoughts exactly

I’ve done it, more than once. It’s my favorite angle to the hobby. You always have to be looking for that next chip, so it keeps you engaged. And when you finish, you’ll have something you love, that you worked hard for, and that practically nobody else has.
On the other hand, it will take you years, you’ll waste a ton of money paying $5 for shipping for each single chip, and you probably won’t recover that money if you ever decide to sell. But it’s fun.

Whats a hobby if not fun right? The part that makes it special is that journey. Takes time sure, but the rewards are worth the wait and the time just like you said. Looking at it now I’m actually glad there are two versions. One easier to find, play, and enjoy in the mean time while I search

I totally agree on all points. It keeps you really invested in chipping. It
also allows you to achieve grail status barrels that either may never come up for sale, or one's that require selling a kidney when they do. Plus if you are really diligent about it, you can get that barrel to a rack in a shorter amount of time then you would think. I was able to do make a rack of excellent quality Sam's Town 1's this way. Get a harvester to get what you need of the small inlay, and take the 1 chip at a time plunge for the large inlay bud!
