Can anyone give me a quick review on the Majestic Star $25. I can't tell from the pictures if the $25 anniversary has brass or aluminum flakes? The regular $25 does. But what about the anniversary?
(The photo is not mine.)

I don't personally have any anniversary $25s, but my understanding is that they do NOT have metal flakes.

Hey, I'm new here and have never posted so don't know how much my input will help, but I do have a majestic star set and I'm not sure what you mean by the metal flakes. However, I will say that i got two extra barrels of 25 when I got my set and those chips are much much newer than the the ones in the set and the chips end up not being completely even in height and can be confusing when counting out stacks. Other than that, they are great chips!

Really it's a shame the majestic stars were so worn. They would have been a GOAT set otherwise. Even worn the red denomination chips specifically are fantastic (when clean).

I mean them. Many casinos add bronze or aluminum flakes to the body of the chip. And also microdots. If you can enlarge this dot enough, there will be an inscription. Something like this.

Ya, it really a shame they are so worn

I gotten a set of the Majestic from TCR sales too due the sheer cheap pricing and spend a lot of sweat equity cleaning up those chips.

Chips are so vastly different before and after cleaning

What do you do to clean them? mine are also in bad shape. I cleaned each by hand once, but scraping the grey gunk that builds up off of them was so laborious

The reds are great, but similarly, the old ones are rounded so some of the stacks dont look completely even in height.

Thank you.
Just paid for a large set of them! :cool
where are you buying them? i am in need of a few more barrels of 25s and 100s

First, I used Ultrasonic Cleaner and a Degreaser (to decoil the oil/dirt) and washing powder for the first round of cleaning.

And hand cleaned them after that with magic easer with the help of toothbrush and toothpick when need to as well

Just a lot of hours of cleaning, life have been easier now that since I upgrade to procuring Mint / Excellent Condition Chips nowadays

Or wait for sales from Jim. Or on the secondary market. I made a deal with Josh from Apache. He had the amount of chips I needed at a good price. I think he also has a Majestic Star 25 (regular and anniversary) at a good price. Write to him.

I got them.
$1 white. Gorgeous chips.
$25 just stuffed with bronze and aluminum. They do not have microdots. And for my taste too much of it. as well as $500. I did not like them.
$25 anniversary in much better condition, but do not have any flakes, but have microdots and the UV lettering.
$5 just wheels!! Grand Opening are cute.
$100 very beautiful chip!
Overall my favorites are 1, 25 (anniversary) and 100. Good old Paulson!

:-)

So worn that some have transformed from RHC to HHS (half-hat & stub). Sign of a hard life.

Gotta wonder if the usage wear would be less if they were regularly cleaned by casinos. Does gunk promote or hinder wear? I suspect dirt encourages wear, but serious buildup may actually protect them.

Perhaps the metal flakes promote wear, by being harder than the plastic and abrasive on adjacent chips.

It would seem to be a function of

Starting material SM
Amount of use U
Cleaning and care CC

So something like

Wear = (SM)^U+CC with a larger number indicating more wear

Amount of use would be tricky without knowing the number of usable chips and the number of users per day

Cleaning and Care would always be substandard

I'm sure it would be dependent on the type of cleaner used as well as their processes. You could have a gentle chemical cleaner but then a harsh abrasive technique which would be bad overall for wear.

Dirt and oils/sweat from direct handling would both physically and chemically wear on the chips as they might be slightly acidic, along with trace alcohol from drink, food stains, gunk from cigarettes, etc.

I would rather protect chips with careful cleaning than dirt and grime and prayers.

In my experience this makes sense but it's a bit more complicated and even the opposite. I think bronze protects against wear or doesn't affect it at all in some cases. But it certainly doesn't make it worse.
I experimented with chips just shuffling them for a while. I watched them for about a year. Paulson lead-free flakes vs Paulson lead-flake vs ASM. All chips were new to begin with except for the leaded Paulson (but in great shape!) and halfway through the process I added 3-4 more new chips to each barrel.
The ASM wore evenly, there was dirt but not much. And when the crosshatching disappeared, the dirt appearance was noticeably reduced or almost disappeared. There was no difference in wear between weighted and unweighted colors. They wore slowly and held their shape better despite the bronze. The lead-free flake-free Paulson wore out faster and over time the hats and canes disappeared completely. And the appearance of poop on them slowed down, but there was still a lot of it. And when new chips appeared in the barrel, they were the ones that began to rapidly cover me with a gray coating. Cross-hatching clearly accelerated this process. I don't know why. Lead Polson with bronze held their shape well and were much less covered with dirt.

For myself, I concluded that the wear and dirt on the chips is most affected by the formula of the plastic, which could change significantly over time, and not just "lead" and "not lead". And bronze only makes them harder.

Do you know what kind of fibers were in each chip? They add a lot of structural strength but don’t know how they would affect wearability

Yeah, traditionally they used organic fibers like cotton and wool, but of course over time they morphed into artificial organics like vinyl and plastics. Helps bind the various organic and inorganic components together with a resin or epoxy.
Oh, that! I read somewhere that TRK used cotton. They probably use something as cheap as that now...

But I believe that they change the formula periodically...

But I am a little upset that Paulson has gone down the path of making his products cheaper.
Majestic Star and many others are a clear example of this.

I’m pretty sure that back in the day, when they were working up formulas that they used almost anything.

Including the incredible amounts of fibers that were generated everyday in Las Vegas and every city in the world with an large amount of hotels. Think about it.

Part of the reason why they went with more synthetic (I don't know about cheaper) materials is so they can reliably expand their colour range. This is why their 'clay' colour pallette is larger than, say, CPC.
