Poker games fall under the Federal Act on Gaming (BGS).

Check out https://www.spov.ch/ for the most up to date information on organizing poker tournaments outside a casino environment in Switzerland, as the interpretation of the BGS is carried out at the kantonal level.

Here in Zürich, for example, poker tournaments (with cash winnings) outside the casino environment (in pokers clubs, bars, public locations...) will be allowed under certain conditions with a permit in the near future.

EDIT: Games in a private atmosphere with friends/colleagues do not fall under the BGS and are allowed. Some conditions apply, such as the requirements that private games not take place in a business environment (ie: Poker Club), not be advertised to the public, that no fees are taken/host makes no money from the games, and that the sums remain "small" (though there is no definition of what "small" means). https://www.bj.admin.ch/dam/data/bj...erkblaetter/mb-geldspiele-private-kreis-d.pdf
