So I recently received a set of Pharaohs from someone on the forum here and got a really good deal for the whole set (more than 1000 chips) and when I received the boxes, I couldn't believe what I saw.

Let me take you on an adventure that you'll never forget.

Couple things before we begin. One, I'm wearing sweatpants because they are comfy. Two, the bed I'm on is in a guest room and is old and the sheets were being washed. I swear I don't live in a dungeon.

First layer was the box. Almost the entire outer package was taped shut. I don't think a drop of water could have made it in.

Now after about 5 minutes of rigorous cutting, I was inside.

What I found was a giant bubble pillow, posturepedic if thine eyes don't deceive...

Getting it out...

As I started to dig through hundred of layers and tape and bubble wrap, tiny beads of sweat begin to glisten on my forehead.

2 hours later...

And two more hours later....

image.jpg

Success! Well, sort of...

Apparently I was shipped sticks of dynamite...

image.jpg

Looks like a layer of masking tape and a layer of packing tape....

Ok.

Let's do this.

Wait a second. So not only a weird thick embryonic film... But also another thin membrane?!?

Ok...

Here we go.

image.jpg

Success!

Dear god. 12 hours later I got one roll out.

What's left?

Kill me now....

11/12..... Never forget.

I am pretty sure that I could have placed this package at a nuclear weapons test site and it would still be perfectly fine after a few blasts.

I'll let the original chip shipper come forward if he/she wishes to claim the prize of most secure packaging ever.

Chip shipper. ... Chipper.

If you can get to any chips in under 5 minutes it wasn't packaged well.
I had just got Fallout 4 and was going to play last night. Let's just say, I went to bed once I got the chips in the racks.

No need to complain about extra padding to protect your purchase! I have had chips shipped to me loose in a box I was not too impressed but luckly none were broken.
Nice chips BTW!

The chips were apparently the original CC Pharaohs and they were played and they were in superb condition.

I like that the molds are all different, edge spots are all different and the edges are flat and not beveled. Excellent affordable set!

I recently shipped my 2,000 custom $2 chips in three medium flat-rate boxes and put them into Ziploc bags that were then taped tight around the chips, followed by bubble wrap around that, also taped tight (although nowhere near as much bubble wrap as was used on yours, don't think that much would've fit in my flat rate boxes, lol!

On to the topic of Fallout 4. I'm waiting until it's been out awhile and bugs have been squashed and the modders have gotten at it. I played Fallout New Vegas and finished it, but got bored with Fallout 3 (and bored with Skyrim) and never completed them. They both had cool moments, but I just feel like Bethesda games tend to not really have great storylines or characters that you really wind up caring much about. And their track record for extremely buggy releases, etc. is obvious.

Metacritic, last I checked, was showing critic reviews averaging 87/100 with user reviews at 4.9/10 It's sad so many "critics" are afraid to rock the cradle with big money publishers/devs and hand out scores in the 80's and 90's like they're candy.

Anyway, looking forward to your review, what are you playing on? PC or console? I guess I actually care more if it's PC, would love to see your specs and see how you feel it runs, graphics, etc. (cause it's obvious from the extremely doctored trailers I've seen that the game isn't going to look anywhere near as nice as they want you to believe until the modders release texture packs)

Hey Mike
Thanks for the write-up. :D Pretty funny commentary as well. After wrapping all the "sticks of TNT", wrapping the bundles in bubble wrap was the fun/easy part. I originally wrapped each stick of 60 chips with ordinary plastic wrap, but felt the chips were still a little too loose for my liking. So I grabbed some of the Press n Seal Cling Wrap which sticks better to itself and then wrapped them as tight as I could. That's the 2 layers you found. I'm glad they made it to you in good shape. I don't ship a lot so I always get nervous when I do.

After seeing your pictures, I think I have changed my mind...can I have them back?:D

Sure, but I am driving them up to you. I don't think I have enough packing materials to reship them the way I got them.

I guess I should take packing pr0n for documentation, when I pack them PCA's to Dave.
I WILL use lots tape, shrink wrap, bubble wrap, cardboard and manilla and at least two boxes on top of the the whole chipment. And then some....

Great work by the seller, for shure if he is not a chipper.
Only problem with international is that customs opens it in 3 min. regardless of the packaging.
They just cut it open with a stanley knife (like a butcher).

I received a rack of PCA $5 with more then 30 damaged chips because of a cutting blade.
After checking they just throw everything (or most) back in the box and some ducktape.
This results in more damage during shipping...the horror.

Glad I have the chips I need...the ones I want is another matter.
International shipping became a very big overhead for the not US chippers, combined with the euro/$ conversion... we are getting screwed.

I want the old USPS back, the cheap flat rate boxes rocked

Looks like we have a market for chip smuggling ....

Make sure you use only the finest baby seal pelt when wrapping those chips.

72o was the seller and not only did he give me a super deal he also gave me a nice casino chip in an airtight as a gift. Super guy!

That's the way to do it. Everything tight, zero movement, one solid brick so nothing gets lost if the outer box is compromised. Full taping on the outside both strengthens the box and provides a barrier to moisture (which can weaken the box, causing it to fail). Great job.

No such thing as too much bubble-wrap.

I package my chips like I package turbos when we ship them out at work. Plastic bag, bubble wrap, lots of tape, packing peanuts, and a good box. Unlike some of my customers who ship turbos in boxes with no packing material... that's usually when the box shows up with a big hole in it and no turbo inside lol.

I've had packaging that had me irate, frustrated, sad, and shocked when my chips arrived.

Packaging like you experienced would show the seller really cared about getting you the chips safely. It's easy to be lazy.

Makes me confident should I ever buy chips from 72

Better that than what happened to me from a manuf....busted outer packaging...missing chippies...dirty restuffed in package chippies

Distraught.

Last thing I will say about the chips and packaging.

The chips arrived in flawless condition. These were obviously taken very good care of and have never seen an abusive table despite being in dozens of tourneys.

I hosted one tourney with my Key West chips and people already got pizza grease on them!

72 took real good care of these and after my last tourney I'm not letting people eat and smear on my babies anymore.

One thing not evident from the photos: 72 backed the sticks of dynamite with thick cardboard so that they could be optionally mounted on a wall if the fancy struck me. This gave the sticks rigidity and kept them from banging around (well, so did the tape and bubble wrap and straight jacket and handcuffs)

Awesome chips! Definitely still one of if not the best China clay options available.
I was just telling 72 in a private message that I think I like these chips the best out of all my chips, save maybe the Key West set since it's a different caliber of chip.

the other side of that goes without saying..... receiving a USPS priority box that was turned into maracas isnt good

i do like the story about someone here that the shipper put the chips in a ziploc bag, placed them in the box then spray foamed the entire box and shipped it... :ROFLMAO:

Taking note of this... will do my best to package for international in a way that keeps the chips safe, but thinks about inspection, and minimizes cutting risk...

Out of curiosity, is that a common term in Europe for a utility knife? In Belgium?

I'm a bit of an etymology nerd, and it's fascinates me when a brand name is used as a generic name... but it's even more interesting, to me, when a brand name is used as a generic name in countries other than the origin.

For example, purely domestic: in the US, people often refer to making photocopies as "Xeroxing," and will refer to cotton swabs as, "Q-Tips."
We wipe noses with Kleenex and Google things like lists of brands used as generic terms.

In parts of the US, people will refer to any carbonated soft drink as a "Coke." People also do this in the Philippines. As in saying, "here, have a Coke," while handing you a Pepsi. It twists my brain.

In the Philippines, people refer to any toothpaste as "Colgate."
As in, "I really like Aquafresh."
"That's my favorite Colgate, too!"

PS: Sorry in advance, @MD Mike , for the thread-jack...
