After accumulating almost 2 dozen sets and sets-in-progress, I finally put the brakes on buying damn near everything in sight and trimming down towards a collection that won’t put me in the dog house forever.
My Monopoly tribute sets were both in the final stages of acquisition, which freed me up to start buying the chips for a custom re labeled cash set inspired by the Milwaukee Brewers, my first true love (Don't tell my wife!)
It all started when I saw the Rivers Casino $1 from Des Plaines, IL. I knew I was going to have to put together a set based on that chip. Funnily enough, it didn’t make the cut for this set because of some dirty stack issues. Don’t worry though, there’ll be a thread for a different custom set that will let that chip shine
Denoms are 0.25/1/5/20/100 with a breakdown of 200/200/300/100/40. I know the number of quarters will ruffle a few feathers here, but our group is still relatively low stakes, pretty new to cash games, and they like to have lots of chips in front of them. Fastest way to accomplish all three is a barrel of quarters each, and I'm happy to do it. Besides, what better way to represent a small market team than to saturate the set with affordable options that will see lots of playing time???
And now, the starting lineup for YOUR Milwaukee Brewers Tribute set!!!!!!!!
From Lake Tahoe, Nevada, these metallic gold THC solids that are absolute bricks. A tip of the cap to the brilliant gold embroidery on some of my favorite jerseys of the last 25 years, these were a no brainer to lead off this lineup as a solid frac
On deck, and showing off it’s raw speed with slim spots in navy and gold, heavy favorites of the late 90’s and 00’s, is the RHC Native Lights $1 out of Newkirk, Oklahoma
In the hole, from Las Vegas, Nevada with its bold nod to the modern deep blue and yellow that have been prominent while the Crew has been (or should have been) making deep runs into the playoffs, is the RHC Boulder Station $2.
This chip calls the City Of Angels home and hits heavy in the clean up spot with its powder blue and yellow combo that was so popular back in the 80’s so much so that they’re bringing it back more and more often now, (including in some of the City Connect jerseys) are over stamped Eldorado $1 THC in day blue and yellow. These were possibly a production error since the day blue is not the usual base for that chip. Luckily for me, the mistake works out perfectly in my favor!
In the fifth spot is a chip that just couldn’t sit on the sideline for this set, the Casablanca $100 THC, shown here with a black base, but it’s being sent down to the minors in a few days in favor of the grey version that was just called up to the show. They’re on a plane now so they can make the next start. They grey base is perfect for those grey away jerseys that have small flashes of color on them shout-out to @joeyshin for confirming these belong in this set
Riding the pine, but desperately trying to make their way into the game are the Saloon No. 10 $1 out of Deadwood, South Dakota. I played with trying to get these in the mix, possibly to platoon with the frac, but they just didn’t play well with the team. Plus, I wasn’t sure I’d be able to find enough of them to meet the heavy demands placed on fracs in our game. The arc yellow just didn’t mesh quite right with the other yellows and blues, so I think this one might find it’s way to the trading block before the deadline in June.
All in all, I think it’s a strong line up with nice variability in color for a palate as tight as this.
If I could find a modest spot pattern, say a 618 or an 818 in white and a lighter blue, I’d think really hard about swapping the Native Lights out
No labels yet, and I’m still kicking around what I want to include for artwork. Logos seems easy enough, but I don’t want to settle on the chalk answer right off the bat either. That said, the color scheme is geared towards different eras of uniforms. Its still a pretty blank slate though. I'm excited to see what comes of it!
If you've come this far, thanks for enduring my (lengthy) writeup!!
