I feel attacked.

I can’t call someone a douchebag when they’re trying to scam members here?
.......... but this guy posts one of the most bullshit ads in several years and long term members should just shrug and be like “caveat emptor, open market, yay!”.
Calling someone a duchbag isn't in the spirit of being kind and all that bs, but (in my opinion) there should be a better way to deal with this sort of misleading/false claims in a classified ad.

I just read (again) the Community Guidelines (TOS) and under Etiquette: No thread crapping is well documented, but (at least to me) the remedy for someone that is clearly making false claims in their advertisement/classifieds is not acceptable:

Just so we are all on the same page here is what it says:
No Thread Crapping! In the case of member-to-member sales, whether in the form of a classified ad or auction for items being sold, users shall not post negative comments with regard to the member, the product offered, or the price listed. Such posting will not be tolerated. If you have an issue with the item or price, contact the seller via private message.

I think there should be a change to include some language about forbidding false or misleading claims in a Classified advertisements. Violation of such rules should be cause for mods to review the thread and remove, modify or cancel the thread as deemed appropriate.

Multiple violations should be grounds for the ban hammer.

Food for thought,

But they're authentic Binyon's.

People were up in arms about China clays to protect new members ostensibly, but this guy posts one of the most bullshit ads in several years and long term members should just shrug and be like “caveat emptor, open market, yay!”.

Aka, the last time he listed these here. lol

Aquadouche’s sale ad should have been cancelled by mods with warning to correct or remove the bs claims. He should be the one at threat of ban, not the ones calling him out!

I believe that it’s important to call out a seller’s misleading statement/claim, but it’s equally important to do so in a respectful and professional manner. Avoid getting angry or emotional, as this will just make the situation worse.

No one reported the seller until this morning.

Also, just as pernicious is thread fluffing.

Not at all comparable .

Thread fluffing may be annoying, but false or misleading listings would be far more undermining of the health of this site.

Buyers need to have confidence that the listings are accurate and legit, or no one will buy here.

I don’t see how this protects the community of buyers.

What if you DM a seller, and what you hear back only reinforces your suspicion that the listing was inaccurate or even fraudulent?

Should you keep that to yourself, and just let someone else get scammed?

Keeping conversations like that private only protects sloppy sellers and potential scammers, AFAI can see.

There needs to be some mechanism to raise a red flag. I suppose reporting them privately to a mod is the assumed solution, but do they really want to police these issues privately as opposed to making an exception that (responsible) comments identifying a problem listing are allowed?

A couple of points that now don't seem to matter:

1) As I pointed out in a now-deleted post in that thread, his ad (and its main pic) matched the set he posted in PCF in 2019, and that he stated in a post in early 2020 had been sold.

2) His ad did not include the now-PCF-required photo of the chips including his name and date.

You’re right, though both hurt the site, one does more damage than the other. I misspoke.

I would compare them thusly. Misleading sales could rip off an unsuspecting buyer, most likely a new member. Thread fluffing, for example, “Great price! Can’t believe this hasn’t sold!” when the price is far from great could also rip off an unsuspecting buyer, most likely a new member.

Was he given a warning?
