So looking at the MOGH Chip Guide, it seems that all the Reno Money Tree chips were TRKs with the exception of the $1 which was a hot stamped Paulson THC.

Does anyone know why this was? It seems strange that a casino would get 25c/50c/$5/$25/$100 from one company and $1 from another! Is there a missing TRK Money Tree $1 out there?

There should be doctoral courses ending in theses like this, offered by PCF which should soon rise to the status of an academic establishment.
Needless to say that the PhD should come with a nice and sweet 2,000 chip set from the topic of interest :D

While I have no personal knowledge of the answer to the question in the OP, I suspect the answer is that nobody except chip collectors gives a sh!t about molds or chip manufacturers or spot progression or any of the things that we routinely wring out hands about.

It’s possible that the poker game was run by an outside person, separate from the casino. This would create the need for special “poker” chips. This happened from time to time back in the day.

The likely guess is that the Sm. Crown chips came first, and they used silver dollars for $1’s. Once they ran out of silver dollars in the middle 1960’s due to the value of s8ver being higher than $1, they likely ordered the $1 chips. Lot’s of sets were missing $1 chips (pick Hobson’s riverside for example).
