I just saw a post on the FB group "Team Michigan Poker" that the great Motor City Poker room will be closing in August. The poker room was under construction last time I was there.

Edit: Just the poker room is closing not the entire casino. Took out the TCR tag because the casino isn't closing

They've been pretty dusty every since the COVID reopens. The dealers got upset becasue preCOVID they were running big tournaments and hiring outside dealers to help deal. This pissed off the dealers and went to the union about it, unioned killed off the tournaments at Motor City. The VID shutdown happens, and when things went to open everyone went to MGM (who were starting to take over the area anyways). 2023 and Motor City kicked them out of their dedicated room and pushed them out to the floor. All you vets know what that means when a room gets kicked out of their dedicated room onto the floor. The room slowly died out and now is finally closing. Was the biggest room in the area from around 2007 til 2018.

Here is the funny thing. Greektown which was Detroits first poker room, they shutdown last June and no one knew about it. Greektown which was jumping from 2004-2007 but has done an amazing job shooting itsself in the foot many times over through out the years. Some how that room stuck around the last decade with only 2-3 tables running. Well apparently it shutdown last June, but because they had no player base anymore no one really knew about it :)

It might still be worth giving TCR a shout here ...... I have played in a lot of places where the poker room and the casino used separate chips

I started thinking about the hooker juice on those chips… Detroit hooker juice.

Maybe we are all better of if those just get tossed in the river

Greektown’s room was held together by the match the big stack 1/2 game they ran from what I heard. This was back when they had the super soft $40 11am Saturday tourney. That was my jam!

Any Detroit rooms left spreading poker? Was going to make it the last stop on a baseball Midwest tour but might cross it off if no poker.

Only MGM for downtown from what I heard. Couple of charity rooms but those are gonna be out of the city.

So this isn't the river that basically wrecked an entire town? ....... I still think the chips are cleaner
I’m not sure what you mean by wrecked the town. Detroit was a pretty awful city 40 years ago. It’s definitely getting better but to me the river was never a bad thing. It was polluted and very industrial but steps have been taken to utilize more of the natural beauty.

Are the chips cool?
crappy giant inlay
(got my sample set when I visited Detroit back in 2015)

The Cuyahoga River in Cleveland caught on fire... Let's keep our rust belt cities straight.

I was actually referring to Flint but apparently Detroit is much further south
