DrJohn
Two Pair
Hi everyone, this is DrJohn - you might know me because of my weekly chip pr0n threads from 2009, over at CT.
I have stopped collecting chips in 2011, after having amassed 46 different sets. I owned some of the most treasured sets, like the Mapes, Aztar Striped Tourneys, Vineyards, Crystal Park. I also assembled unique sets of casino chips that no one else has - for example a playable set of live Ameristar chips, and the MotorCity Casino Detroit cash set you can find below.
I am back, but not because I have picked up collecting again, but to unload most of my remaining sets on you, fellow chippers!
There is a story behind this set of MotorCitys. It all started with the racks of .25s, I noticed they are still being sold by someone. If I remember correctly, a .25 chip costs the casino more than its face value; you probably know that better than I - so this someone must really want to ruin the casino ;-)
Anyway, I liked the quarters, but never found any other set they really fit in. So I decided to get a complete and playable set of MotorCity chips. I found someone who lives near that casino, and paid him to play for these chips. It was a long and tedious process, and it cost me a pretty penny. In the end, I was able to assemble the set you see below.
For $20s and $100s, I used Sahara plaques. I have collected 40 $20 plaques, and 9 $100 plaques; when I took the pictures, I had less, as you can see. I really like these plaques, and I am thrilled that AfterTheFact here on PCF was able to build a playable set of Sahara chips and plaques.
The MotorCity Casino set (without the plaques) is up for auction in the Classifieds right now; the auction runs until March 19th, 2017.
Voilà the MotorCitys:
