One of my favorite TV shows is 'Las Vegas' featuring the fictional Montecito Resort & Casino. I watched every episode with my dad and couldn't get enough of it. We were very disappointed when NBC cancelled it after the 5th season.

In honor of that I have decided to do custom label project for a set of Montecito china clays. This will be my first nice set of chips, upgrading from the ubiquitous dice chips.

This will be a tourney set with $25, $100, $500, $1000, and $5000 denominations. I haven't made my final decision yet but will use either the Majestic, Milano, or CPS Tower & Spear blanks.

I have slightly less than zero experience or skill at designing anything so I have reached out to @p5woody for some help. He has been fantastic to work with so far and I would highly recommend his services to anyone looking to go a similar route. I will post the mock-ups as we progress to the final product and would love to hear all of your thoughts and ideas.

Before we get to the mock-ups, here is a picture of the prop chips from the show:

And finally, the first round of Montecito mock-ups:

When referring to the designs I will use the following format:
1 2 3 4
5 6 7 8

2nd round based on feedback from Virtus. Was trying different color combination on the top row and different fonts for MONTECITO on the bottom.

IMO keep the original denom text from the OP. There's a lot going on and the new text down the bottom makes it look too busy.

The more I look at it the more I think you are right. I liked the stacked version like is featured on the new Bellagio chips but I do think that in this case simpler may be better.

@p5woody these look awesome!

My favorites are definitely #1 and #2, although I like the gold 'M' with the black box logo of #4 the best on the light label version.

I think @stocky is correct and the denomination should be written out like #1 in the first version of the mock-ups.

I still can't decide between the black and the light label, I like the black better on the screen but am hesitant as I didn't like the black label on the Majestic chips as much as the light on the Milanos.

As far as the bottom row goes I like the first one the best and although this is the closest to what I originally had in mind when I first messaged you I just like the 'Resort & Casino' designs the best at this point.

I'll almost always pick a black inlay/label because I love them.

@p5woody is it possible to see what the first two labels with the edits I described above would look like on the CPS Tower & Spear blank chips?

I'm thinking:
$25 - Lime
$100 - Blue
$500 - Purple
$1000 - Orange
$5000 - Red

No. Hybrid chips are ceramics with a recessed center that takes a label. The outer edge of the ceramic material can be printed in any design (like the original Montecito edge spot patterns, for example).

Hmm.... didn't even know this was an option. What kind of price /chip would this be? Don't see it on the website. Also not familiar with Sunfly.

What would be the advantages to this vs doing a full custom ceramic?

And dangit @BGinGA this process has been hard enough without throwing more options into the mix ha. I am very prone to analysis paralysis!

If you already have the blank majestics stick with them if not ceramics are a good option. Not sure of the cost of the top of my head but Makestics cost 35¢ and labels 15¢(?) ea and considering you need two labels per chip it's about 65¢/chip. Ceramics may be around the same price.

I think Sun-Fly prices for custom hybrids are around 80c/chip. I know you can get custom regular ceramics from them for around 60c each or so. PGI also offers the Sun-Fly hybrid blanks; not sure about GOCC. A little more expensive than standard ceramics, but not that much more expensive than custom-label china clays once you buy the blanks and labels and apply them yourself.

The advantage of hybrid chips is that the print quality of a laminated label is typically much higher than a corresponding printed ceramic chip face. In addition, the recessed center offers a tactile experience similar to clay chips, vs the flat surface usually associated with ceramic chips. Bonus is that you aren't locked into any set pattern for the outer ring or rolling edge artwork, unlike most clay or plastic chip options - both are a wide-open canvas.

Don't have the actual chips yet, still trying to decide what I'm going to use. I only have sample sets at this point, although of my samples I find that I do prefer the china clays more than the ceramics. Still a toss up between the Majestic and CPS blanks as to which is my favorite.

Thanks @p5woody!

They look great and it definitely helps me to visualize it. The black labels are amazing and definitely what I prefer.

Based off of that I'm leaning more towards the Majestics too. Although I'm thinking about going with yellow for the $1000s instead of orange.
