My Horseshoe SI chips marked up my table! (1 Viewer)

So, my group plays tournaments almost exclusively. This past month we decided to play a cash game. Hadn't used my Horseshoe Southern Indiana chips since getting them years ago. As soon as we started I noticed white marks all over the table from the white $1 chips! Have you guys experienced that? What should I use to clean the cloth? It looks terrible. Am I going to have to lightly oil them before using again? Grrrr..

Usually just a wet cloth. Some mild dish soap on it for small stains. We don't have food or drinks on the table so I rarely have to clean it.

Well, I tried to clean it. It looked okay, but then my son played on it with different chips, and it got marked up again. Thinking about putting a new cloth on it. I cheaped out years ago and got the suited speed cloth from Amazon. Cheap crap. I think I want to go with a softer cloth.

You won't regret it, SSC is so rough. Your cards especially will thank you for a softer surface. Chanman cloths are A* if you've got the budget for one

If these chips are brand new they have factory dust on them. Will help to give them a quick wipe down with a wet cloth before putting in play.

Yeah, I am looking into that. I would love one of Tony's cloths, but I don't think my budget is going to allow it. I was monitoring the thread he used to have with mistake cloths, and I almost bought one of those a few years ago, but somebody beat me to it. This table is a 58" round. The playing surface diameter is 49". I'm up for any suggestions anyone has!

I made the mistake of using cheap Amazon SSC once. I think it is cheaper because they don't give it the Teflon coating the more expensive SSC's get.

Yes, thanks, that's a good option but it looks like the maximum width is 48". My table diameter is 49".

First time using white chips on that felt?? Sounds like you usually use chips that aren't light in color, and especially new chips that are going to be dusty and leave "residue".


Hit it with a vacuum with a brush attachment, like an upholstery attachment, and see if that pulls that dust out of the felt. I do this regularly with my table and it helps pull the crap you can't see off and keeps the felt looking better anyways.

I always have felt marks from new Paulson chips. Usually from white and green chips. I wipe them lightly with a wet cloth and leave them to dry, that seems to work.

Okay, so I don't think the marks are actually from the white chips. I think the cloth is degrading? Now, if I slide anything in the middle of the table, it leaves a light colored mark. Taking a wet washcloth and going over it fixes it, but it just happens again. Attaching a picture. The two lines are from the butt of a pen, and the other white marks are from trying to vacuum it by running a shop vac over it. I'm definitely going to replace it, but I have a game Friday. Any thoughts? Maybe scotchguard?

In these newest photos, I see a general darkening to the felt closer to the center compared to the edges (good example at the top of this photo near the rail). That's just gunk from people's hands... oils, dead skin, chip dust, etc. embedded into the felt. By scraping it with the pen or the attachment to the shop-vac, you'd just breaking that out of the felt and exposing it.

My suggestion would be to remove the felt, run it in the washing machine to get all that out of the felt (gentle cycle, gentle tumble dry or just let it air dry) and re-attach it. The felt is fine and it isn't your problem, or even the white chips... it's just really dirty.

Scotchguard might help, but frequent vacuuming of the felt will help keep that from getting embedded. Unfortunately, it's just the case of having people, as dirty as we are, playing cards on a table with a felt. It comes as part of the "regular maintenance" of a table.

I’ve got a table that does this as well, I think it’s just built up residue from soaps and upholstery cleaner. You can wash it with a wet cloth and it looks new when it’s dry. But then anything you drag across it will leave a mark, like dust across it.
I think replace or remove and wash/rinse well are your options. Maybe a steam cleaner vacuum?

Ok i didn‘t saw this issue.
If you can find one in right proportions, it‘s the easy way.
Re-felt is the less easy way, if you can find a suede or chan man felt in size.
Annual cleaning after every game is no fun.

Okay, I took the cloth off. Look at the difference between the front and the back!

I'm going to put it in the washer now. I may just use what was the back at least temporarily. Another option is a cloth that I bought years ago at a fabric store.

This picture shows the front and back. I like it, but don't love it. I may do one of these temporarily and wait for a @T_Chan oops cloth!
