I've enjoyed playing poker since I was a kid. Growing up it was always Penny, Nickle, Dime with actual coins. My parents bought me a Hoyle 300 piece interlocking set when I was 10, and we used it all the time. I was the only kid in my circle of friends that had one, so I brought it everywhere. At 17, I bought my first set of 500 Dice Chips. I thought I was the man, haha. Those were so popular I bought a second set and started having some pretty legit poker nights. 20 years later, Crown Casino chips are the best I can do. They beat the heck out of the Dice chips, that's for sure. I've enjoyed hosting regular tournament games with my closest friends. I know everyone's idea of the perfect starting stack is different, leaning to the lower side of overall chips. I discovered that there was a lot more action, when guys had a good amount of chips in front of them. On a $20 buy in, you would get 100K in chips. We would play sometimes for 8 hours, and it was always a blast. Definitely wish I bought some plastic cards sooner, worth every penny.
T100 x 40
T500 x 32
T1000 x 20
T5000 x 8
T10000 x 2
Payout was easy: 3rd place got their $20 back, 2nd place got $40, and 1st place got the rest.

500BB starting stack is pretty extreme but whatever works for you. It would certainly encourage loose play but that can get silly past a certain degree if everyone is calling everything. Of course 90% of my players aren't interested in playing 8+hours. I have always stuck to 100BB starting stacks which is conservatively standard but I also don't like a million blind raises in a tournament in order to get it over with either. My goal is to be wrapped in 5hrs....or maybe 6hrs max.

Yeah, originally I was on the 100BB wagon. We like spending time together free of wives, which is why we play so long. My wife let's us all do whatever we want, which is why we play at my house. Also, we typically only have 6 players max. Anytime we have tried to add another person, they never seem to vibe with the group. We also do pot luck food, so we break for munchies. The everyone has to sober up before they drive home...
