I have the outlaw 500 piece set of chips ( 150 1$, 150 5$, 100 25$, 50 50$, 50 100$) and have 8 people coming over. I’d like to keep the game to at most 5 hours. I’m struggling with how many chips each player should start with and the blind structure and color ups. I’d like to offer 2 buy backs for at the first color ups for eliminated or short stacked players.

Any help is appreciated.

Side bar,

First time here and I’m overwhelmed with how deep the poker chip community is! A lot of cool custom chip sets and collectors information. Getting the itch.

Oh, welcome! I'm over in Savannah.

Starting stacks:
10 $1s
8 $5s
10 $25s
4 $50s

For a total of $500 in 32 chips. Rebuys and color ups can be in $100s.

Blinds start at 1/2 and increase every 20 mins or so. I You're starting deep (250 BBs), but you can reduce blind level timing if you want it to go faster. Caught me on a lunchbreak so I'm spitballing:

$500 starting stacks (250 BB), 15-20 min levels, whatever you prefer. If its a newer crowd I'd probably make it 15 or 18 minutes.
1/2 (0:20)
2/4 (0:40)
3/6 (1:00)
4/8 (1:20)
5/10 (1:40)
6/12 (2:00)
8/16 (2:20)
(2hrs20mins in, 15 min break, color up 1s)
10/20 (2:40)
15/30 (3:00)
20/40 (3:20)
30/60 (3:40)
40/80 (4:00)
(4hrs in, 10 min break. Color up 5s)
50/100 (4:20)
75/150 (4:40)
100/200 (5:00)
(Expecting it to end around this time)
150/300
200/400
etc.

I think I'd add a 1/3 level in there as well. I think 10 minute breaks are fine too, especially with 1 table. You might want a break after 3/6 level too, just to keep the breaks consistant.

@BigBench , @krafticus is an authority here! He's right, I cheated and took the 1/3 out to squeak into the 5 hour time length.

I just want to add that we use Outlaw chips at one of the home games and easily make up our own denoms without a problem because the values printed on the chip labels are too hard to read anyway.

Edit: Using the printed denoms such a $1 & $5 is fine too but if youre like us and use to T25 based tournaments then it's easier to use the chips as T25s, T100s, and etc.

Thanks neigbor. Do you play in any of the SARC poker league games?
