Woke up today to find this in the basement. Fun stuff
As a Texas homeowner, this is Greek to me.Fortunately we have sump failure coverage for up to 50% of the value of the house, so that should be one less stressor.
Shiny floors again!Today was my turn
Total sump pump failure. Shop vacced for 2 hours and I was able to get ahead of it but was seeing that water was still coming in.
An emergency call to the plumber later for the price of a rack of TP fracs, we have a new sump pump that's getting the water out.
Before anyone asks, no chips were harmed in this ordeal.

Sound advice indeed. This I did not expect. Pump was only 7 years old. Figured we had at least 3 more years on it.Ugh. I'm sorry Joe. Reminder to everyone to check on your sump and be sure to have a battery backup.

They have sump pumps in New York... And Pittsburgh. As a Texas homeowner, this is Greek to me.
Jokes aside, sucks to see that Dan. Good luck with the rehab.
I grew up in a house built in the late 1800's/early 1900's. We had a basement that child me felt looked like a dungeon. It didn't have a sump pump, or if it did, I was unaware. They have sump pumps in New York... And Pittsburgh.
Sorry this happened. Check your homeowners insurance policy. Sump pump failure may be covered. When this happened to me 5 years ago, the adjustor determined that the only reason the basement flooded was because the sump pump failed and I had a one time coverage for that.Today was my turn

Just curious,We installed the below and cannot recommend it highly enough. It sits directory above our plugged in sump and has been a life saver during power outages.

Just curious,
If the sump pump itself dies, this won't help, correct?
Nope. That is the what is great about it. It is really just a second sump pump connected to a battery. In our case, we lost power during a killer storm and realized our sump was worthless without power, so we bought the battery backup.
The below picture shows our setup. The two pipes are the different sumps. One being our plugged in original sump and the other to the battery powered one ( battery being in the box on the left ). The battery powered one is positioned higher than the original so it does not always run. Each spring when we are getting a bad rain, I will go down and unplug the original sump just to make sure the battery one kicks on.
The only negative was the install. It was not fun.

If I had a choice I wouldn't...Moral of this thread:
Do not store chips on basement floor. Ever.
