That is budget dependent. Clay is best, but not for the faint of heart/wallet. Customs are better than generic, but generic are easier to unload if you decide to upgrade your set. Remember you can always sell chips as well as buy them.

Few care about weight. "Official casino weight" is a lie. Storage is often discussed on the forum.

Quality is somewhat subjective, and everyone will tell you to obtain samples before spending hundreds/thousands/10s of thousands. Yes, $10,000+ sets are not unreasonable, but few start out at that price-point.
