I've been lurking on here for a year or so, but finally got a username. I enjoy the low denomination chips for a monthly dealers choice home game. I have enjoyed seeing the variety of postings on here and lots of nice/friendly help between chippers!

I'm currently looking for one rack of 25 cent Paulson Pharaohs (I have one), 2 racks of $1 Casino De Mexico and 2 racks of Flamingo $1 chips. I want the Flamingo chips to play with in honor of my great grandmother who excitedly spent her annual stock dividend checks on the Flamingo slots in the 1970's and 80's. The employees knew her well as a good tipper and one time she placed $100 bills all around the pool when she hit a big one, or so I heard...

Cheers,

Welcome to the Forum. Glad you finally signed up and joined us. It sounds like you are putting together a mixed set and I wish you luck with your search.

Flamingos are a hard one to find!

Because someone is hoarding them all

So how reasonable to get a used rack of $1 flamingos to play with? It seems like there are a TON of singles around at $3ish/chip on the internet, but it's getting a whole rack that's difficult?

Also, what is the easiest pattern on the $1 flamingo chips?

Thanks!

The Flamingos with the spots (like my avatar) are the hardest. You will find the Flamingo with no spots being sold occasionally. I have been collecting the spotted version for many years and I "have a few". Not sure you will find too many at $3 per chip. If you do then you may want to buy as many as you can!

Don't forget, there's the older Flamingo Hilton chips.... if your great grandmother was playing in the 80's, then she would have used those versions of the chips

Yep. Those were them until around 2000 when they were purchased by Harrah's

Issued in 2000

In 2004 they issued the spotted with no bird which they replaced with the spotted bird in 2010. They only kept those in circulation for one year until they issued the solid with bird.

Welcome!

There are a few of us from the PDX Metro area. What part of town do you live in? Ever play at any of the card rooms?

Aren't the $1 Flamingo solids still live chips? If all you wanted was casino used and didn't care if they were spotted (like DavidO's avatar) you should be able to get a rack fairly easily if they are live?

Good point, it sounds like the non-spotted version is still live and shouldn't be too hard to gather. Thanks!

I'm in NE Portland and would happily consider suggestions on where to play (in my very limited free time)...

Welcome Shawn to PCF.
I worked in Portland for 4 years then came back to SoCal in 2000..
