Welcome to the forum! Hold on to your wallet and don’t ever leave your underwear behind at a meetup. Best advice I can give.  :ROFLMAO:

Welcome to one of the brightest corners of the Internet. May your visit be prosperous.

It's totally true. I've only been here a few weeks, but already my attitude has gone from "I can't believe there's an Internet forum devoted to poker chips, much less that it's this active," to "I can't believe there's an Internet forum where everybody is this nice." I had always assumed that the forum software just automatically turned people into dicks, but apparently there's a setting you can tweak.

We’re United in our vision to optimize the the experience of playing poker by promoting the use of the highest quality artifacts, perfecting game structures, promoting the advancement and of non-holdem poker variants, and ensuring every poker room around the world has a hot dog roller.

Wow, thank you so much for the warm welcome! I'm trying to take in as much information as possible but right now I feel like I'm trying to drink water through a firehose.

Oh, yeah, I also like that about this place. I've got nothing against Hold 'Em, except insofar as people are coming to think that the term is coextensive with the term "poker." TX Hold 'Em is a heckuva poker variant, and if only one variant were to survive, you could choose a lot worse. But there's no reason only one variant has to survive.

Hello and Welcome! This is a very special place and I hope you enjoy the journey!

Give yourself a few months to take everything in. You’ll learn things you never thought you would from this community. If you love poker and chips, you’ll find just about everything your looking for in these pages and threads.
Best time of the year to find yourself a beautiful set of chips is usually between now and Christmas. Things tend to switch hands and find new homes more often in the next couple months.
Best wishes going forward and pursue what truly speaks to you.

So I shouldn't be looking at Paulson full sets, a Bud Jones set for a change of scenery, and maybe another one-off or China Clays?! I'm like the market right now, I'm ready to buy

Look at whatever floats your boat and set out to acquire it. I think you’ll find as the holidays approach, more of the things that are usually tougher to find will start shaking loose.
Happens every year. People are also starting to feel the effects of inflation from all the “not so free” money that has been printed and pumped into the economy the last couple years.
Think about it……
Gifts for my kids
Gas for my vehicle
Or these poker chips sitting on a shelf collecting dust?
Stay tuned, you’ll see what I’m talking about.

I have only been here for about a year but I would agree with this completely. In the last few weeks some epics sets have been listed and sold and while some have commanded high prices others have sold for a relative steal. Hopefully not a sign of the times but given how things are looking in both the USA and Canada many of us may be deciding on selling chips or fitting them in your cars till they are also taken away through carbon tax measures. Using the same logic I picked up several decent foldable poker tables this summer when my province was in lockdown and no poker was on the horizon....4 tables for $600, three of which are nice was a great deal.

To the OP, welcome aboard and good luck finding what your looking for

Hello and welcome to the forum. I didn't realize how much I was missing poker and discussing chips until about a year ago. I was cleaning up bookmarks and found the poker folder. Tried Chiptalk and a couple of other sites with no luck, so off to google it was and I found this rabbit hole. But it has been an amazing experience and a great group of chippers.

My recommendation, jump into the rabbit hole with both feet if you haven't already. You won't regret it.

Welcome to the forum @ctestb , great first couple of post sir! Like any other hobby its pick your poison here. Unfortunately like many others you will likely find that buying a beautiful set of chips which will have you right back here looking for the next set. I trully can't explain what it is about chips... but it is very different and more addicting than anything else I have ever collected. Mostly I think it is the amazing friendships that we make here.

I still remember @FordPickup92 and myself walking into this hobby, looking at threads of people and friends that had been collecting for years going "how the hell are we ever going to fit in with these folks" well I promise you there are so many super generous awesome people here that will make this a pleasant journey for/with you! I mean it has been a struggle, most people on this forum know what day "Ben gets paid" because often I was flat broke and already spending my next pay check! I hope you don't catch "the bug" that bad, its brutal man. But also Brie and I walked away from all forms of social media years ago and find this hobby/forum to be all we need for entertainment! Chipping is our life now, traveling across the country for meet ups with other chip nerds, we spend every evening cleaning, oiling and bringing chips back to life!

It's an awesome journey sir! Hang on tight to your wallet and enjoy the ride!!

My best advice is (if your are married and your spouse is not a fan of your new found enjoyment) to find another address to have you mail shipped to! Once these packages start coming in it can get overwhelming quick man! A great many relationships have been brought close to the breaking point over the addiction here ask @Jeevansluck ... I just happen to be lucky enough that my amazing better half is just as obsessed with chips! Lol

There we are sharing some goodies with friends at a meet up!

Remember your taste will likely change as time goes on so don't blow the whole budget on the first set! Slugs, ceramics, BCC, Paulsons, RHC, THC, Scrown, and so many more terms will quickly become part if your vocabulary as you move forward. Remember we all like different stuff so buy samples and find what works for you!

If there is ever any way I can be of assistance feel free to reach out, happy to help even if you think it may be a stupid question. There are tons of people here willing help you along the path!

Keep on chippin!
Ben

Welcome to the forum!
If it hasn't been said and even if it has I'll say it again, get samples!!! Of everything you can get your hands on. It'll save you alot of coin if you can have an opportunity to feel and see various chips in person!

As Ben mentioned, this hobby is full if wonderful folks, and a few bad eggs... but we don't let them ruin the fun

Some pointers:
As you start out and are making new purchases please use the feedback system. Be very aware of any strange actions during a transaction. We have had a few bad people target our community this year. Using PPGS for your first few transactions along with the feedback system is strongly recommended.
Otherwise, you will find our community to be wonderful and overall a very trustworthy/honest bunch.
Also - be advised USPS sucks

USE THE SEARCH FEATURE!!!
Searching can help familiarize you with prices, and prevent being price gouged as a new member. Also you can sometimes answer questions or inquisitions from a thread that has been previously started

Please do not hesitate to ask anything, whether PM or public post this is a place for education and growth.
You will find the overall community to be very welcoming! Please do your best to be respectful and polite to everyone who treats you the same.

Paulson, BCC and TRK are all clay, and each has few variations of moulds (imprint pressed into clay)
CPC is fully customizable
Everything else can be categorized under china clay, ceramic, plastic, or hybrid
