Hey y'all. Just joined as a new member a couple days ago, but I have been a long time lurker. Finally wanted to be able to use the website as intended (post/comment/etc) so here we are. I have been heavily thinking about buying a cash ceramic set for my home games, so I'm just constantly looking at endless options, while taking in account, budget and quality. Looking forward to reading more. Cheers

For my first custom set. I have been running the number of chips for each denomination over and over in my head the last 2 weeks. Even doing some math in the shower (lol). This is ultimately what I ended up with. I normally host an 8-9 handed $0.25/$0.50 NLH with min max buy in of $40-$100 (so 40BB-200BB) with unlimited rebuys and a $1 live straddle option for UTG. So far it has worked well, and sometimes it even plays like a $0.50/$1 towards the end of the night. I really like using $1 for workhorse chips at these stakes, (from my observation of local card house $1/2 games their workhorse chip is the $5). So basically with my home games being 1/4 the stakes of live poker, I would like to go for similar chip breakdown. I also would like to ideally stay below 600 chips, as budget is important but I can stretch to 600 max if need be. The games will never go beyond $0.50/$1 and the most our money our table has seen in one night is about $1500 (I don't really see us exceeding this # but if we do, we can always introduce bigger denom chips in the future). We average around 800-1k total usually (4 players usually buy in for $100, while 4 buys in for $50 (as you can see not too many reloads unless degen, which it sometimes does, super rare). I want to keep the least # of denominations possible. I know this is a tough ask. So far this seems like a decent breakdown to be able to use the $1 chip as our workhorse. Always open to suggestions. Thanks!

80 - 25cent pink ($20)
300 - 1 blue ($300)
160 - 5 red ($800)
20 - 25 green ($500)

560 total chips

total bank: $1620

Well that escalated quickly.

Welcome! I just love how the first post was this nice short intro and the second was a fully detailed rundown. I am excited to see what end up ordering and if you have an mockups feel free to post them.

@chimppoker I would definitely take my advice with a grain of salt, because I still haven’t even bought my own samples yet.

But from everything I can see, it exceeds all your denominations amounts, except for the $1chip where it is 50 short of what you wanted.

I guess the question in my head now is - is this the set you really want or is this the set you want until you make a custom set later down the road, because then it is just all about the budget.

Welcome! I would probably reduce the number of $1s and increase the number of $5s & $25s.

Welcome!

My game started as .25/.50 and then we moved to .5/.5

I would suggest
Non denom x 100
$1 x 200
$5 x 200

This will host a game and be enough of a start to add onto later, and be enough chips to sell if you out grow it

You might as well round your chips up to 600 - at least with Tina you have to order in increments of 25. I'll second what others have said, too - almost everyone buys too small a set at first, and regrets not having some higher denoms. Get more 5s and 20/25s. You won't miss the small amount of 1s, but more on the higher end really extends your set's flexibility for the future.

I've now owned a Tina set, a Paulson set I'm still putting together, and a CPC one I got in the classifieds. And I love the Tinas just as much as ever. The web mold is beautiful, and they are great chips.

Hey @chimppoker, I’m curious if you made the jump at the set you posted? I just checked back and it was marked sold.
I did actually end up scooping that set. I was thinking about it all day yesterday and pulled the trigger right before bed. Ultimately, I was looking for a budget starter set since we have been using unmarked metal slugs at our home games for over half a year now. I think my previous denominations were a little off, and y'all were correct in the end with more $5's being recommended. I hosted another game this past friday and could definitely see how towards the end of the night we could use more $5's than $1's. Also i thought the design was super cool and unique, and the colors were very similar to what I wanted in a set.
.25 (some sort of pink)
1 (blue)
5 (red)
25 (green)
I recently got a sample set from brpropoker and don't think the extra cost would be worth it, especially of the chip set size I'd want to feel comfortable. I don't ever think our game would ever end up needing the $100s, but good to have the extra bank (as with the barrel of 25s). So a large playing set with a lot of $5's for a deal worked out for me. Hopefully i made the right decision for my first set, as I see countless posts appearing all day. Im even looking at a custom table topper to match the desert palms logo. I recently saw a cash tiger set for sale with the exact colors i'd want for $1, $5, $25, but I don't think it would ever be smart to spend that much in chips this early into the hobby (i've played a little since a kid, but never owned a set)

Honestly it looks like a great set, so I am sure you could sell it in a minute if you want to. Overall not a bad way to start on here, and a huge upgrade from metal slugs!

Hey @chimppoker, I was wondering if the set came in yet or if you are still waiting?

I will post better pictures in the days to come but here is part of the chipset in the new versa case. Tonight is going to be the first time using them

That’s awesome to hear they got in the mix! Honestly, this find got me looking through the classifieds, because even though I have the idea of building a fully custom set, it would be nice to upgrade our game a bit in the meantime.

I hope you made back some cash in the game
