Hello everyone, I’ve been lurking the forums for a few weeks and decided to create an account.

I’m a big into board games but want to get playing poker again (been years since I’ve played).

I don’t have any chips but would like to get a 300 chip set to start with. I wouldn’t have more than 5 players. I want a set versatile enough to play tournament and cash game (obviously not on same night and would only be playing with friends/family). Would get a separate set for cash games eventually. Unsure on distribution of 25/100/500/1000 chips with that low of chip set (need to order in 25 rolls). I could use the tourney chips as .10/.25/1/5 in cash game or is this confusing?

I’m in Toronto suburbs (Go Raptors!) so Straight Poker Supplies seems to be my best bet. From their chips I’m interested in either Nexgen ProClassic, Cash Club or Poker Knights. I like other chips from USA stores but shipping and exchange rate are bad.

Nice to meet you all! It’s amazing some of the collections you have.

welcome ....poker knights are actually pretty good for an entry level set. I have a 2200 chip set of Monaco Club (same as poker knights but different label) and they are decent chips. A little heavier than I am used to but I never got any complaints from people using them. I am a Paulson snob (though slowly turning into a Matsui snob too) and I think they are fine

5 player T25/T100/T500/T1000 would be 8/8/6/1 T5000

qty of 50/50/50/50 which gives you extras for chip ups and some rebuys

cash game you can be 25c/$1/$5/$10 so add maybe another 25/50/25/0 for 300 chips total.
That gives you 75 (25c), 100 ($1), 75 ($5) and 50 ($10) for a bank of almost $1000

Welcome to the forum!
Cheapest solution I can think of for 5-6 players (specifically for cheaper plastic chips coming in rolls of 25ct), accommodating both micro-cash and tourney (but don't you ever do it consecutively or simultaneously, even with your aunts - you don't really know what these women are capable of :D ) is:
50 x 5 (cents for cash - just 5 players, or Tournament 5K on top of the set, for tournament purposes)
75 x 25 (cents for cash or Tournament 25 units)
75 x 100 likewise
75 x 500 likewise
50 x 1000 likewise
Total 325. Should fit in an aluminium 300ct case. Actually many of them fit 54 per row x6 =324:D

Hello sir and fellow Canuck, Welcome!:)

Straight Poker Supplies seems to be my best bet. I like other chips from USA stores but shipping and exchange rate are bad.

I feel you here. I opened my account in March and my spending power was immediately crushed by this place, the chips and the god awful exchange rate as a Canadian. Especially right now. It's bad.

I personally had to swallow this pill whole and have accepted my real world costs for stuff to actually get it on my table.

For me though, whatever I am collecting, I intend to keep. So it's a matter of how much you are willing to get the things you love. Keep your eye out for auctions by other Canucks. That's when we can really take advantage and even cut out the den of thieves (don't know if I can acutally name them here)..but you know...rhymes with HEY PAL! God...wait till you try to send a US seller some money. Effing painful!

Happy Chipping! Good luck getting a great start. You are in the right place.
