What chips do you recommend?

I recommend all of the chips if somebody does not have any quality or spending requirements. Then you can find your own sweet spot for quality/price/rarity.

Recommendations are going to be subjective. Look around the forums and you'll start to get a feel for what you like based on looks. From there, you can look into getting samples and you'll be able to figure out what you like best!

Start with a lot samples for sure. Poker chips vary quite a bit in their feel, weight, texture, sound, slipperiness, diameter, smell and colors. They are all glorious, some are just more glorious than others.

@afirst is correct. The chips I like aren't necessarily the ones that you will like. Like finding any good match. you need to handle a few to figure out which type really does it for you. I mentally substituted "women" for "poker chips" in his post, and it's still a 100% applicable analogy....
