Hello everybody,

Just wanted to say hi and introduce myself.
It started with a fascination for cards, bought myself multiple sets of Copag, Modiano, NTP, Piatnik...

But now I believe my dice chips should be upgraded as well :) I am playing with friends who do not really care about what we are playing with but I just love to have nice stuff.
Been reading this forum the last couple of weeks and the enthusiasm is contagious.

I was considering buying Tiki Kings / DDM ceramics however now I am contemplating going for Paulson straight away.

Will be difficult acquiring them in Europe I guess? Maybe some folks from Holland/Belgium here who can chip in?

Welcome! There are quite a few members are are also in the EU so shipping shouldn't be too bad if you are patient. I agree with your assessment, go directly to Paulsons ;)

When I started chipping I went with some ceramics, which later got upgraded to nicer ceramics and then some Bud Jones chips. Once I got my hands on to some Paulsons I haven't looked back since.

Feel free to ask if you have any questions! I have found this forum to be very inviting and helpful to new members.

Thank you! It is a real shame that shipping and taxes are killing.

I likes the the look of the Paulson Horseshoe chips, should be able to get a 500 set for 800 bucks?

Welcome! Yes, some European offers pop up too, watch out the classified. I'd also agree with "going for Paulson straight away":)

Are you folks play cash or tourneys (or both)?

Welcome! I would say get a barrel of 2-3 different chip types you think you’d be interested in - tiki ceramics, Paulson (THC/RHC molds) clay, hybrids etc. handle them then either buy them or start saving

We play low stakes 5c/10c to keep the game enjoyable for everybody. I would love for atleast a 25c/25ct game, but do not think it will ever happen.

I was thinking getting a set that is also suitable for an occasional tourney.

Game is mostly 6 handed, max 7 handed.

Denom breakdown:
5$ x 150
25$x 150
100$x 150
500$x 50

And maybe some 1000$. Obviously playing $ is cents.
This would also be suitable for 2000 chips tourney 10/10/7/2 for 10 people.

And yes the name was chosen while I was still eyeing Tiki Kings

You may be surprised about jumping to 25¢/25¢. It's only $25 for 100BB. If you skip the 5¢ on your new purchase and use the line of, "let's just try it once and see how it goes" I'm sure your players will like it. They can see there is still hardly any real money to be lost but if you play good and get on a heater it's possible to walk away with a couple hundos

Welcome! Straight for the kill I like it! I think with some persistence you will find there are members here who can help with reship to Europe for reasonable prices. Perhaps you can start a thread and do a 2 for one (meet your post min so you can start buying, and find some helpful PCFers!)

We all have a decent salary but my friends remain Dutch (going Dutch is a saying for a reason...) So I think it will remain a nickle and dime game unfortunately.

Feels a bit strange to go for an expensive chip set for lowest of low stakes game. But I guess a good set will last a lifetime.

Hope I can find an Europe set or someone willing to help!

Welcome - It’s tedious but I recommend buying sample sets of at least 10 chips..
Chips in-person are fundamentally different than images.. so much is lost online: touch, feel, sound, weight, shape, stackability...
My advice is to jump straight into Paulsons but don’t pay above ClassicPokerChips.com prices for a Paulson set that’s edged are worn away unless you really love them.. otherwise, strongly consider cpc..

Welcome! You might want to check for sample sets with some of the EU members here, who have been very gracious to lend sample sets for free.

If you're willing to wait for a couple of weeks or so, I could put together a loaner set consisting of Tikis, Paulsons, Chipcos, China Clays and Bud Jones. Only pay for shipping and keep them for a while for making a decision.

Also - do consider getting separate sets for tourney and cash. You get to buy more chips, and also minimize your risk for game integrity issues down the road. But really, more chips!

This sounds great,I am also willing to pay for the sample set no problem.

Buy samples is the first thing I read over here, but I thought as everybody seems to go Paulson in the end Paulson is a safe choice anyway.

Learn the difference between molds before you dive into a set: THC, Suit, RHC, Paulson Chips, Diamond...

I have been reading a lot about the different molds, do you have a source our forum thread with extensive info?

Here's a great two-part show-and-tell by our moderator @Trihonda that helped me get started with the acronyms.

Thank you! These videos are excellent!
I actually like the looks of the Cleveland Horseshoe and the WTHC the most. Cleveland Horseshoe should not be so expensive and hard to get right?

Glad to hear they were useful!

Take some time to go through Classifieds using the search function - you should find that complete sets from HS Cleveland (and/or Cincinnati) come up for sale now and then. You should be able to find a 500 chip set for around $600-800 depending on condition and denominations.

Once you reach 10 posts, you could even put up a "Wanted" ad with the breakdown of your choice. You might have a tough time finding a set already in the EU, so mentally prepare yourself for $80 in shipping and whatever VAT/customs charges Netherlands has.. Welcome to EU chipping :wow: Same applies for Tiki Kings, especially if you end up buying them new from brpropoker.com or ABC Gifts (a vendor here).
