I've oiled about 120 of my new CPC chips and let them dry 48 hrs.

When I oiled them, I used a microfiber washcloth with a small dab of plain mineral oil for about every 3 chips given I didn't want to be excessive.

When wiping excess oil off the inlays today I noticed on some of them a very slight ring of discoloration at the edge of the inlays, perhaps as much as 1/8th inch under the inlay.

No inlays seem like they are coming off or bubbling up.

This could be as simple as the oil just absorbing deeper into the chip. I just want to be sure there's no chance oiling will cause an inlay issue before I continue to oil the lot.

Yes, oil can get behind the inlay...trust me.

I recommend using GEL instead of OIL -- this greatly reduces the chance that it will get behind the inlay. Also, I recommend just doing the rolling edges (pinch a barrel together and use a shoe polish applicator to oil the whole barrel at once). After a day or two, use a rag to wipe off any excess, a little will get on the chip faces, but not much. Just wipe that off, and you're good to go.

Here is what you need:

Thank you.

But is oil behind the inlay an problem, aside from any aesthetic issue?
