I got a call today from someone selling their chip collection gathered from the 1990s onward. They got my number from our mutual house keeper.

This is an individual chip collector, not a set collector. He has 1,582 individual chips displayed in 25 displays. Asking $6,000 - likely soft. There are also old chip collecting magazines and some misc. slot cards, coffee mugs and similar items. The seller is an older gentleman and doesn't "do the computer".

I will get a chance to view the collection once I get back from Rumble in the Rockies - say within the next two weeks.

I am looking for helpful suggestions from wiser heads here on PCF. I don't have a clue about how to value things like this. Sets, yes, individual chips no. The displays alone likely cost $2,500.

I can't even begin to figure where I could display that many chips - there are only so many walls in my house.

If you want to borrow my Campiglia Chip Guide I'll be happy to send it down.

Take photos and then research them for 48 hours before committing.

Time to start using the ceilings/floors

Unless it's wall art, you generally don't get money back from displays.

With that you're looking at $4 a chip. Keep that in mind when pricing.

Doesn't sound like a steal when you put it like that.

And I thought I had a problem with 5 cases, thanks Jeff for making me feel that I don't have (too much of) a problem.

I was going to make a joke about whats in my drawers but I'm a pasty white Irish guy and no one would believe my bragging anyway.

@DrStrange have you had a chance to go check this out? I started typing and looked back to see that you were going after the RitR, so might not have gone yet.

I have not gone yet. My schedule is a shambles waiting for the A/C guy to come. It is over 100 every day, so even though we have one of two units still working most of the house is hot. Missing the A/C guy and going to the back of the list seemed like a terrible idea.

I was in the same boat with one A/C down for a week. My A/C guy (also work buddy) figured out it was a bad furnace board. Ordered a replacement from Amazon Prime and what showed up was a used, damaged piece of trash... unbelievably pissed! At least I was able to send power directly to the fan and get the upstairs cooled back down again. Not looking forward to another trip to the attic to finish the job.

Valuation of an individual chip varies greatly. If there is one, I would get a listing of the chips from him before you go check it out. In general, older Nevada and AC chips will be higher valued than those from Riverboat states or illegal clubs, which there were a lot of in Galveston. He could also have chips from foreign countries, which i have no idea on those. Shoot me an PM if you have any questions. Good luck!

I didn't look what they are now, but I think around $80 each?
