Ordering Chip Set (2 Viewers)

Hello everyone!

Me and my friends play poker roughly once every week or two. When we all get together, there is ~5-6 of us. However, sometimes its in the range of 3-8 people.

We play with cheap dice chips we found at a TESCO for years now and I would like to invest some money in some better chips. I have looked at Milanos and Majestics for a while and my sample sets should be arriving soon.

Considering most of them generally like to play for 10c/20c blinds or 50c/1$ blinds, I need some help with mapping out denominations for my cash games.

I have read Quad's post about mapping out chips for a cash game, which helped, but I thought I'll ask since its my first bigger investment in poker. I thought about buying $1 denominations and up and if we play for lower blinds we just divide the actual amount by 10 (so $1 chip is worth 10c, etc) to save some money and for adaptability. I was thinking of ordering a set of 300, but if that isn't enough I am fine with spending up to ~300 EUR (326 USD).

I live in Europe so I'd need an EU company (or US but with 20% duties + transport I doubt its cheaper). I could find both Milanos and Majestics only for 0.69c / chip. If anyone is aware of any websites that offer Milanos or Majestics for that matter for cheaper, please let me know!

Using 1/2, and dividing by 10 is fine for a fun home game. Even better, look up "Tina" on here, and ask some fellow Euros about their experiences and cost for a set of Tina ceramics or "hybrids". That way, you could get chips that fit your game.

300 chips will be a little tight for a cash game. 500 chips would be better. If you're playing .10/.20, I'd suggest switching to .25/.25. it will play basically the same, and you can skip a denomination.

Something like this would work:

.25 x 160
1 x 200
5 x 100
25 x 40

I agree you should move to $.25/$.25. I think you'll need fewer fracs (under $1) chips than that. I would suggest:

Being in a similar situation a while back, I did some looking around and came up with this table:

If you want to buy Milano chips in Europe, your choice is AFAIK basically between Poker Shop and Premium Poker.

Poker Shop gives you a 500 chip set for 339 EUR and singles for 0.69 EUR.
Premium Poker gives you a 300 chip set for 199 EUR, 500 for 299 and singles for 0.64 EUR.

Personally, I can only vouch for Poker Shop, but I bet Premium Poker works just fine too. Poker Shop is based in Germany though, so shipping might be marginally cheaper than Premium Poker, which is based in Estonia.

I agree, especially if you teach everyone how to make change efficiently. But some smaller games with less experienced players have a lot of limping and raises to 50¢ or 75¢, and a few more quarters keep it from being awkward.

Thanks everyone for the quick answers. Premium Poker's lowest denomination is at $1, but they are indeed cheaper. Shipping is fine it generally isn't more than 10-20 EUR.

It's tough to cover 10c/20c and 50c/$1 with a small set because 10c/20c needs two fracs, and 50c/$1 only needs one. If you divide by 10 you can make your $1 and $5 fracs for 10c/20c , but when you play 50c/$1 you'll still need a 50c chip. Probably easiest to just play $1/$1 instead if you want to keep 10c/20c, $1/$1 is closer to 50c/$1 than 25c/25c is to 10c/20c.

On the other hand, the advantage to going to 25c/25c and 50c/$1 is that you won't need to scale any chips. Either way you'll be hard pressed to keep it at 300 chips, unless there are few rebuys.

Possible 300/400 chip setups. Depending on how many buy ins you need you can adjust things. I assumed you'll be buying in quantities of 25, you can optimize a few things if you're buying in 20s.

I got mine direct from Tina to the UK.

I ordered around 1000 custom chips, mostly 39mm but some 43mm, and it was something like $280 for the chips and $225 for the shipping. Took about a month from order to delivery.

(Costs may obviously vary a bit but it won't be a million miles away)
