I ended up winning this bid for the 80 "skiing" chips. (I was actually following this on eBay before the OP posted it here.) Sorry if I sniped out anyone else here, but I just couldn't pass this up. I also have 80 of the 500 denom "Climbing" chips.that seem to go with the "skiing" chips.

This seems to be a themed set with the 500 Climbing, and 1000 Skiing. Does anyone know the history or background of these chips? Are there other denoms of these chips out there somewhere? A black 100? (I searched on google, but didn't find much.)

It is one of the Paulson fantasy sets sold in the old Paulson store, typically referred to as the 'sports' set. Other similar sets included 'cars', 'planes', 'u.s. generals', 'u.s. presidents', 'dogs', etc.

lol Uhh yeah, I play quite a bit actually. Golf is one of my loves, I can't play for shit but my god I love walking 18 with a few good buddies, or alone is almost as enjoyable some times. So just a little off there courage.

I actually meant the "mistake" was using the word "golfing"... You don't go baseballing, or tennising, or footballing; you play baseball, you play tennis, and you play football, so therefore you play golf not go golfing. It's a grammar nazi thing, more tongue in cheek than anything really.


And yeah, I love George Carlin but he's way off base in that bit if it's the one where he talks about hating golf because of all the room it takes up and it only being a sport for rich white guys. It's just a bit he did and maybe not even the way he totally feels so it's a little silly to debate it, but it would be pretty easy to shoot holes in the things he says, especially since he was a guy that flew around the country on a jet performing in theaters for audiences that paid good money to see him, not for free for the homeless.


But yeah, the thing we all need to take away from this is RIP George Carlin, too young. Oh, and Paulsons are nice too...

Actually, the two that don't fit that "individual outdoor recreational activity" theme are Football and Baseball. Everything else is just dandy, and all appropriately end with "-ing". One can sail or one can go sailing, or climb or go climbing, or golf or go golfing, etc.
