They look almost new. 60 cents each.
Nice pickup. LCV, too!
Nice pick up. Would've only been better if the blues where 25¢ and the yellows $20s.
I agree. To be honest, I didn't even pay much attention to the actual denominations as I will most likely relabel them.
Now whether I relabel them as a set or break it up and use them as add-on to other sets, I'm not entirely sure. If I don't relabel the set as a whole, the white might become an Aruba Palm Beach $1 chips, to expand the APB chip set that I already added a relabeled $500 chips to. I could even use the blue chips as a $0.25 chip in that set as well. The only problem then s what I would/could do with the red and yellow chips.
I am weak and have no willpower.
Damn straight. I would have SNAP bought those. Nice colors, reasonable breakdown, LCV spotted that aren't starbursts?? F me, I've been watching and waiting for sets like that for years. Nice pickup!!
Were there other pics besides the one in the top post? I can't tell what the denoms are besides the yellow hundreds (very cool and unusual) and the white $1s. I also can't tell that they're LCV from that pic.
I really like the the look of the $1, with the red 314 on white. Might keep that in mind for the CPC set I pretend I'll be able to afford one day. Sounds like you'll have a great .25/.50 set when you get done.
Very nice. @Ben, @detroitdad or @jbutler would also be jealous. Does the B work with "bentax" too (relabelling plans aside)?
Awesome score! I'm really digging those white and yellow chips.
Thanks! The more I think about it, the more I am strongly considering just relabeling the whole set as opposed to breaking it up and using it for different projects.
I did have one specific thought, perhaps you guys can let me know what you think. If I decide to go this route, I'll post a separate feedback thread on the label design. But in the meantime, here's a really rough mockup below.
The thought was a Rounders inspired relabel. I figure the chips are about the right look/level of simplicity to pull it off (simple/one color edge spots on each chip). Instead of the bear, I was thinking about going with a black lab. We lost out 14-year-old black lab (Jake) exactly a year ago last weekend, who was with us for the last 11 years after we adopted him when he was three. I figured that would be a good way to personalize the chips, but still give a similar look/feel as the standard Rounders chips.
Any thoughts?
Who wouldn't like this idea??
It's a 'yes' from me for sure! Then when you decide to go with customs you could call it "Jake's Dog House".
My condolences for your loss also. I love the idea of a tribute set.
Having recently lost my big boy (first dog) too...I love this chip set idea. They're awesome. I have thought that if I ever do a fully custom set, it's going to be in honor of my boy Cooper. Man did I bond with him, and miss him. Cooper's Poker Room chips will have to be made someday, I think.
And boy do I ever know what you mean about inadequate ventilation! Yikes. At the end there, Coop could clear a room, no doubt!
Anyway, enough about my smelly boy...back to you. I think this is a really great idea, and the chips are really terrific! Nice score, my friend!
You haven't even finished your other set, and you're already tee-ed up for the next! Nicely done!
I love the idea. They look great and what great tribute to "an old friend" I almost purchased those same chips almost a minute or two after they went up for auction. I am glad it looks like you will make good use of them.
Thanks for the condolences. It was really rough the first few weeks. Even a year later it's weird not having him following us around the house. But 14 years was a good run...
Condolences on your loss.
I adopted a lab/dalmation mix in his first year, and my wife and I lost him to cancer at 13 and 1/2. It was heart-rending, and we missed him terrible. Over two years later, I would still hear a little noise near me and think it was him, padding around or sniffing at something. And then realize he was gone, and feel terrible.
Honestly, I didn't "get better" until we took in a pair of dogs to live with us. I would have done it sooner, but my wife felt she wasn't "ready." I think she was waiting to heal from something that wasn't healing while we had no dog with us.
Well, enough semi-thread-jack - congrats on snagging the chips, I love the tribute and the KGB-esque nature of them. Good luck with them!
Sorry to hear about Jake. I think these would be great as a relabeled tribute set, and I really like your Rounders-inspired minimalist artwork.
"Wanna play poker tonight? We can break out the Jakes!"
