They look almost new. 60 cents each.

Nice pickup. LCV, too!

Thanks!

I actually saw them on eBay before I saw Tommy's post here. While I was deciding whether I should pick them up, I figured I'd check here to see if someone already posted a link to the ad (or to see if perhaps the seller also posted them for sale here). Once I saw that they were already posted, I figured I had limited time to act :)

Nice pick up. Would've only been better if the blues where 25¢ and the yellows $20s.

I agree. To be honest, I didn't even pay much attention to the actual denominations as I will most likely relabel them.

Now whether I relabel them as a set or break it up and use them as add-on to other sets, I'm not entirely sure. If I don't relabel the set as a whole, the white might become an Aruba Palm Beach $1 chips, to expand the APB chip set that I already added a relabeled $500 chips to. I could even use the blue chips as a $0.25 chip in that set as well. The only problem then s what I would/could do with the red and yellow chips.

Maybe something like this, not sure which one goes better. The other could then be a quarter, either for this set or another cash set that doesn't currently have a quarter.

Damn straight. I would have SNAP bought those. Nice colors, reasonable breakdown, LCV spotted that aren't starbursts?? F me, I've been watching and waiting for sets like that for years. Nice pickup!!

Yeah, it was pretty much a snap call given the colors/condition/breakdown. I only hesitated for a couple minutes to check and see if it was someone on PCF/CT who listed them for sale. In hindsight, I guess spending those few minutes checking almost cost me the pickup, because even if it was someone on here/CT, it would have been too risky to send them a message and wait for a reply while they were sitting for sale on eBay.

Were there other pics besides the one in the top post? I can't tell what the denoms are besides the yellow hundreds (very cool and unusual) and the white $1s. I also can't tell that they're LCV from that pic.

There were 6 total pics, 2 showing the front and back of the chips. One side has a single initial "B" on them, below is a pic of the denomination side.

As for denominations, I'll end up changing them up a bit when I relabel them into a new set (which is the current plan). I'll likely use the blues (or whites) as a $0.25, the whites (or blues) as a $1, the reds as a $5 and the yellows as a $20. This will give me a pretty playable set for $0.25/0.50, or even slightly higher stakes if it's not to large a game, given the total bank of slightly under $2000.

Very nice. @Ben, @detroitdad or @jbutler would also be jealous. Does the B work with "bentax" too (relabelling plans aside)?

I really like the the look of the $1, with the red 314 on white. Might keep that in mind for the CPC set I pretend I'll be able to afford one day. Sounds like you'll have a great .25/.50 set when you get done.

Yeah, I like that one as well. Actually, I think they all look decent enough, can't really complain. Looking forward to seeing them in person tomorrow!

Haha. I didn't even think about the "B" in bentax. Unfortunately, bentax is just a made up online username, whose origin isn't particularly interesting or special. Long story short, when I used to buy and sell a lot of camera lenses, a friend of mine found a "great deal" on eBay for a lens from China. He knew it was most likely a scam, I was 100% sure of it. I told him there was no chance he was getting a Pentax lens, and joked with him that best case he'd get a Bentax lens. I later created the username Bentax1978 on the forum to send him a message, just to tease him, when inevitably it was a scam (he got his money back, so I felt it was ok to give him a hard time). The username just stuck, so when I initially had to create a username on CT, I just stayed with Bentax (and figured I'd keep the continuity when I joined here earlier this year).

Awesome score! I'm really digging those white and yellow chips.

Thanks! The more I think about it, the more I am strongly considering just relabeling the whole set as opposed to breaking it up and using it for different projects.

I did have one specific thought, perhaps you guys can let me know what you think. If I decide to go this route, I'll post a separate feedback thread on the label design. But in the meantime, here's a really rough mockup below.

The thought was a Rounders inspired relabel. I figure the chips are about the right look/level of simplicity to pull it off (simple/one color edge spots on each chip). Instead of the bear, I was thinking about going with a black lab. We lost out 14-year-old black lab (Jake) exactly a year ago last weekend, who was with us for the last 11 years after we adopted him when he was three. I figured that would be a good way to personalize the chips, but still give a similar look/feel as the standard Rounders chips.

Any thoughts?

Who wouldn't like this idea??

It's a 'yes' from me for sure! Then when you decide to go with customs you could call it "Jake's Dog House". :)

My condolences for your loss also. I love the idea of a tribute set.

Thanks for the condolences. It was really rough the first few weeks. Even a year later it's weird not having him following us around the house. But 14 years was a good run, and he certainly lived a good life.

Back before we moved and I hosted weekly cash games, I had seriously considered a Jake based set of customs. He was a fixture at the games, specifically laying under the table. Despite my warnings to be careful where people left food, he would occasionally eat things he wasn't suppose to, and the consequences were high. Let's just say it was a basement with inadequate ventilation to deal with the aftermath. (If I recall correctly, @brains613 was particularly offended by the Jake's ability to destroy a room)

On the bright side, he never ate any (poker) chips.

Having recently lost my big boy (first dog) too...I love this chip set idea. They're awesome. I have thought that if I ever do a fully custom set, it's going to be in honor of my boy Cooper. Man did I bond with him, and miss him. Cooper's Poker Room chips will have to be made someday, I think.

And boy do I ever know what you mean about inadequate ventilation! Yikes. At the end there, Coop could clear a room, no doubt!

Anyway, enough about my smelly boy...back to you. I think this is a really great idea, and the chips are really terrific! Nice score, my friend!

You haven't even finished your other set, and you're already tee-ed up for the next! Nicely done!

I love the idea. They look great and what great tribute to "an old friend" I almost purchased those same chips almost a minute or two after they went up for auction. I am glad it looks like you will make good use of them.

Jake was our first too. I had a dog growing up too, but Jake was out first child. Adopted him a year after we got married, he was with us through two moves and two kids. Within a month of adopting him we had to buy a king sized bed (a queen was inadequate for the three of us, Jake was north of 100 lbs) and a Volvo station wagon to haul him around. He had his own bedroom too. He was a bit spoiled :)

Yeah, as time went on, his room clearing ability seemed to increase. There were a couple games we had to send him upstairs early because it was a bit overwhelming.

Why wait to finishing one, when you can work on two at the same time! Save shipping costs on the labels :D

Thanks, I will certainly do my best to make good use of them. Glad I decided to buy first and figure out what to do with them later ;)

Condolences on your loss.

I adopted a lab/dalmation mix in his first year, and my wife and I lost him to cancer at 13 and 1/2. It was heart-rending, and we missed him terrible. Over two years later, I would still hear a little noise near me and think it was him, padding around or sniffing at something. And then realize he was gone, and feel terrible.

Honestly, I didn't "get better" until we took in a pair of dogs to live with us. I would have done it sooner, but my wife felt she wasn't "ready." I think she was waiting to heal from something that wasn't healing while we had no dog with us.

Well, enough semi-thread-jack - congrats on snagging the chips, I love the tribute and the KGB-esque nature of them. Good luck with them!

My condolences on your loss as well. No worries on semi-thread-jacking, I invited it when I posted the mockup and mentioned Jake. Totally understand still hearing things and assuming he's right behind you. Even now when we're leaving the house, and the kids (or I) leave stuff out on the floor or table, my first thought is "oh crap, better pick that up or Jake might eat/destroy it".

Sorry to hear about Jake. I think these would be great as a relabeled tribute set, and I really like your Rounders-inspired minimalist artwork.

"Wanna play poker tonight? We can break out the Jakes!"
