Anyone know why PayPal is requiring you to get a PayPal debit card to accept transactions on your account? This is the first time I’ve encountered this. They are even requiring verification via license scan.

Has anyone else experienced this when setting up a new account?

Sorry for bumping this inside of 24 hours guys, but it seems important enough, and it might warrant some good information for everyone. I posted late last night so it may have moved down and some may not have saw the thread to comment.

Any insight would be very helpful.

My only guess is that paying with your PP balance is (usually) free, but paying with your PP debit card earns them an extra 3% (or whatever they're charging). They can't earn the extra $$ if you don't have the debit card, hence the requirement to now get one.

1. Maybe a states issue? Do you use a VPN?

2. How large are the payments?

Like you said I haven't seen this, thinking its either regional or your account was flagged for some reason. Did you license expire?

It let me cancel the debit card and keep the PayPal account. I’m wondering if there was some concern because I have 2 accounts.

No VPN.

Payments are relatively small.

My license better not be expired, that would be a bigger issue lol.

I have learned that you have to be very careful with the screen prompts or you will end up in triple verification, in person authentication requiring three generations of ancestors.

They try to steer you to these things like they are “required”. Usually there is a smaller pick somewhere that lets you do whatever you are doing normally without their sales and marketing steering you to their products.

I had to go through a period of time going through three screens before I could actually get to my account. Because they were pushing facial recognition instead of passwords.

To be fair, that would be more secure. Nobody wants a picture of me. :wtf:
