Just curious, if you had to take a stab at it, what percent of all non-custom, non-dicey-cheapo, quality chips (i.e. Paulsons from closed casinos or home market, TRK's, Bud Jones, etc.) do you think are owned by the PCF community as a whole?

Was just assessing my Empress set and started wondering how many folks are out there with heaps of chips but disconnected from the rest of us (and also depriving us of more delicious chip pr0n).

Less than 1%, and probably less than 0.1%. There's lots of chips out there, mate. We're only the extreme hobbyists. Plenty of regular Joe's out there with a single home set that they're happy with.

Ehh it can't hold a flame to all the amazing sets on display here, which is probably why I started daydreaming about more Empress chips out there in the galaxy somewhere just collecting dust on someone's shelf.

I would venture a guess in the very low end of the percentages as well. Since I've been a member of online chip forums I have met two people in casinos who have very respectable collections and could talk chips all day who have absolutely no idea what pcf/ct is and have no desire in finding out. Odd to me being a person who utilizes the net and online communities to further my knowledge, to them though they are just fine with their "guy they know" who gets them chips. I don't care either way, I just want to know their "guy" also... :D

Irrelevant. Pics? :D

Nah, not collecting dust. They're wel protected by birdcages, cases, and/or slide out shelves. Not that I would know... :whistling:

Empress chips you say?

I think we have to separate the chip room sales, where CT/PCF members hold a disproportionate number of chips from, other "domestic" cancelled chips from international chips. Maybe we do hold a third of all the chips from Chip Room sales but after that our numbers drop off hard. Let's not even consider destroyed chips - just the ones somewhere in circulation.

Go look at the chip guide and imagine each of those closed rooms had 15,000+ (+++) chips. Most of them are somewhere and not in our hands. I think of us as the poker chip version of abused animal rescue. A storied place where lost poker chips can go to find their forever home. But most chips are sitting in boxes, bags, crates, or wherever longing to see the felt just one last time.

PS That set is 200 chips bigger now . . . .

Thanks Dr. I was actually about to look for a pic to post but that takes the cake by far.

I also thought about all the Chip Room sales and how likely it is non-CT/PCF folks are sitting on a giant stash of Empress, PCA's, Terribles, etc.

I was thinking of a number a little higher than what most are posting, but I guess I was thinking primarily of the known major sets that we all know and love. Also all the home game hosts I know with nice chips are PCF'ers and all those with the meh chips are not. Small sample size, of course.

So basically the bottom line is we all need many more chips, correct? :D

Just as a reference, Spinetti's probably has more chips stashed away than all PCF/CT members combined. In the grand scheme of things, we are small potatoes.
Spinetti's, apache, the chip room and David Spragg count for our team. They have accounts and subforums.

What I want to know is how much of CPC's business comes from us directly, and through people who see our sets in person or online but don't join. My only hint is that the a-mold runs continually but doesn't get used all that often by us.

Maybe narrowing it down to very certain sets, that's where the percentage perhaps can be quite high ...
If a closed small casino, gambling boat, Bowling Alley etc.. , had, say, 1 to 10K of $25 or $100 chips made, & 10% were eventually lost, damaged , it' may be possible PCF/CT members hold the lion's share of those specific chips, in a case like that ...

And that's why we come here for group therapy.

Group therapy? enablers aren't usually part of the therapy sessions in my experience :)

I'm still studying those damn quarter pies trying to figure out a project for them once I get enough loot to move forward with it.

Empress chips you say?. . . .

i have posted here before that the 1,200 chip Empress set i sold to someone in NY was the only set i have regretted selling...

still have 120 hundos that i keep toying with rebuilding a small set

dont ever sell any Empress...(n)

Not many chipper who sold a set, do so without regrets. Sometimes it can't be avoided. Sometimes you sell one to get another. But there is always nostalgia for the one that got away.
