ChipMonster
3 of a Kind
First, I’d like to thank everyone in this great chipping community for the inspiration to jump headfirst down into this rabbit hole. I joined this forum in June of 2023 after making the mistake of Googling “real casino poker chips for sale” after a poker night with some buddies when I decided that my cheap slugs from Amazon no longer satisfied me.
Second, I’d like to thank @Tommy for creating this forum and being the glue that keeps everything running. @David Spragg for his dedication to the craft and being extremely helpful and responsive throughout the build process. @Colquhoun for his design expertise and patience in bringing my idea to fruition. Finally, @Irish for his CPC loaner service to the community (without this I probably would have never pulled the trigger on putting this together and deciding colors / molds).
The Inspiration:
My family and I traveled to Maui for a week in July of 2023 for my brother-in-law’s wedding. It was a perfect week in paradise. I designed this set in the CPC design tool while hanging out at the beach and gathered inspiration from the ocean and sea life, scenery, fruits and vegetation, shaved ice desserts, rich dark fertile soil and of course the lava rock (we stayed right at Black Rock Beach). I daydreamed about how awesome it would be to make my own resort and casino there and live in paradise year round and imagined how it would all look and feel. I knew I wanted to make a Cali color set that was fun and bright but still classy. I wanted an upscale but fun tropical feel that was less Jimmy Buffet in Margaritaville and more James Bond. @Colquhoun nailed the logos in my opinion and the crown at the top of the pineapple was completely his idea. I knew we had a winner as soon as I saw it, especially given the mold choice. We tested different colors within the logo and also tested with white inlays. The design process takes a lot of time but for anyone else considering it, my recommendation is to take your time and embrace it.
Without further ado, welcome to PBHC!!
Cash: 5¢ - $1,000; CPC Small Crown Mold
I knew I wanted a small stakes set to play with my family but also be able to host a small table of friends. I pretty much built the set around the $1 and $100 chip. I had the most modifications to the $20 spots and colors, bouncing between brown and black base and different spot patterns. It ended up being the most expensive chip in the set but I’m absolutely in love with how it turned out. The $500 and $1,000 chip are completely unnecessary for my stakes but I wanted to round out the design and also felt like I needed a brown chip in the lineup to make it a true Cali set. I have a $5,000 chip color if I ever decide to do an add-on
Tournament: T100 - T25000; CPC Large Crown mold
The tournament set was a late add-on. I had a couple designs in mind for spot patterns but ultimately ended up with the classic 3D14. My goal was to keep some uniformity across the lineup and have a bit more of a monotone theme with similar base colors and spot colors (one spot brighter than the other). I also have a T100k design if I ever do an add-on.
Family Portraits: 1,200 chip collection, 500 tournament + 700 cash
