I was thinking about adding some 5c chips to my mix for some $10 buy-in 5c/10c micro stakes games.

Not sure if I should buy a whole new micro set with 25c & $1s etc. I could use the ample Milanos I already have and just add 5c Pharoahs or Majestics.

I'm just wondering if a different chip would bother me haha.

Anyone play with mixed sets? Thoughts?

Personally a mixed china clay set would tilt me to no end. You would be better off getting Gear Labels to make you 5c labels to match milanos and stick them in yourself.

Mix sets only work for casino chips IMO.

Hey Milly. I looked at your 5c Majestics again. Pretty nice set. You still enjoying them?

I thought about GEAR labels, but that would come to like ~70c a chip, which seems high for a micro set (180 X 70c = $126).

I could just buy say 400 Majestics for ~$50 extra and have MOAR chips. So the labels add too much cost.

I guess it comes down to a full micro set or just the Majestic nickels. I just dont know if it will bother me. Do folks here play with China clay mixed sets?

Or even better, any photos of stacks of say Milanos sitting next to Pharoahs or Majestics on your felt?

Yup still love them, colours work soo well together. Problem is, ive now bought a Tiki Kings set (which will probs never be played with - I just like the design) and placed a 2000 chip order of the Boardwalks. So the majestics will be used a little less.

MOAR is always good!

I've played a few large home games where the host had to combine sets. They usually started with the same set at one table but eventually everyone was playing with mixed sets. I don't know that I would say it was annoying. Somewhat obnoxious from the standpoint of always double checking your stack before you push it in.

Are those 5c Majestics the same yellow color as the $1000s? On Apaches website the 5c appear darker?

I'm with @MillyS, mixed only works with casino. CC mixed set might tilt me. I think it would be because of the production variances between CC sets. If you're building a THC mixed set, the pretty much all feel the same. Not so much with CCs.

Could someone please explain the differences in Paulson molds?

THC- Top Hat and Cane Mold
RHC-????

If there are more Paulsons molds please explain.

Thanks for educating a rookie!

Thanks for the link!

I was thinking RHC was meaning roulette version  :ROFLMAO:

Reverse sounds better!!

Well, except that Eisenstadt never calls MD-76b "RHC" (Reverse Hat and Cane). He does say "ALTERNATING DIRECTIONS" but that mold has two canes in one direction, six in the other. To make things even worse, the 36mm Paulsons do actually alternate the directions, four and four. @BGinGA proposed "AHC" for that mold, but we'll have to see if it sticks. "IHC" for inverted hat and cane on 43mm is pretty standard around here.

That said, to @mummel 's original issue, I'd go with a relabel, but I wouldn't mix molds on a paulson set either. You only need 100 nickels for a single table anyway. There's only one yellow base Majestic blank, btw. It is shared by the nickel and $1000. I actually think all the nickels are yellow blanks with factory labels applied by Apache, but there may be a later run where the labelling was done in China.

Great thanks, good to know.

That link is confusing.
Here's all a rookie needs to know about Paulson molds.
The red chip is RHC - see how the clay border around the inlay is narrower?
The white and brown chips are what is commonly referred to as THC - there are a bunch of subtle variations on these, but the significant difference is that the space for the inlay is smaller and the clay border around it is wider.

Mix sets only work for casino chips IMO.

I agree with this 100% I use a mixed casino set that all use the same chip mold. My OCD even kicks in when there are different molds for the same casino... For example, the Horseshoe Cleveland $1s and $5s don't match! However, different inlays don't seem to bother me...
