So I’ve been playing around designing some cash and tournament custom chip sets.

my plan for the tournament set is -
Light Green
Gray
Lavender
Canary
Butterscotch

All solid with no edge spots.

my cash set I’m having trouble with ideas. I don’t like denominations on chips and I also don’t like different color edge spots on different base colors. I was going with silver/black edge spots to match my basement theme and table theme (silver/black MLB team color).

my standard chip set will be standard

White
Red
Green
Black
Purple

here is the sample black. Same edge spot design and color for all color base.

what does everyone think.

One issue with edgespots that are similar across multiple chips is that it may be tough to quickly distinguish how many of which chips are in the pot. Similarly, you may end up with "dirty stacks." Where your chip stacks while playing the game end up with a mix of different denominations.

While using the chip tool, you are able to save each chip and display them all on the screen at once. I encourage you to do that so you can see the similarities.

Ah I see. How do you save them to display all at once?

If done well, the consistent edgespots can be a cool look. However, if you have the 1/2" spots like you are proposing it can make dirty stacks a huge issue.

Also, be sure to get a CPC color sample set. Combos like gray/lavender can also lead to dirty stack issues.

Take time to play with the CPC design tool a lot. You'll find your likes and dislikes evolve as you work with it.
Ah I see. How do you save them to display all at once?
  1. Make an account so you can save set ideas.
  2. Click on the main chip and click "Save as new" or "save as #(x)"
  3. Save your set using "save set"
  4. Edit previously saved sets by clicking "load set"
  5. When you have a set of chips save, click "save as PNG"

Great. Thank you. I ordered a color sample earlier this week.

Here are all the cash colors.

It is addictive... I like how these are progressing. You can have a cohesive set... with different color edgespots.

Here is my last Cash and Tourney design. Changed the tourney to standard colors but different, simple edge spots.

Love the way the cash set is coming together!

What about the 2V12 on the 1 and 5, 3V12 on the 25 and 100, and 4v12 on the 500?

I designed them Ike that but the 4v12 seemed too busy. I’ll try it again when I have a chance and post it.

I put light gray/dark gray combo on white 2V12 instead of light gray/black like the black 2V12.

I’m also debating eliminating the purple cash chip. The chances of my stakes needing a $500 chip are slim to none.

I’m thinking of a 500 set with breakdown 200 each of white and red, 75 green, and 25 black.

Ok. I received my samples in the mail and I love the large and small crown molds. Definitely a level above the rest of the molds. After seeing the standard and off colors, I redesigned the tournament and cash game chips. See what everyone thinks.

Final design. Any thoughts on the tournament set colors and edge spots.
Now I’ll think about buying for a long while.

I changed the light green tournament chip to
A 1/4” edge spot. I kept the charcoal with a 1/2” edge spot to keep more of a black chip theme and to darken it a little. I’m not going to have a purple for my cash set. No reason to, hence the purple, yellow, and orange are standard 500, 1000, 5000 colors. My goal for those edge spots was to go red for 500 (5/500), gray for 1000 (100/1000 shade) and pink for 5000 (shade of red 5/500/5000). What are everyone’s thoughts. I may be purchasing in March.

Slight change.

Does anyone have any input.

Here are my notes:
  • Maybe use different molds for cash and tourney (i.e., s-crown for cash, l-crown for tourney), just to really distinguish them from each other.
  • I'm liking the simplicity and (mostly) monochromatic feel of the cash. That hundo will be HAWT, and feel like a prize when it gets into play!
  • I like what you're doing with the tourney set. I'm not sure I like the 25 and 100 being tone-on-tone, but the 500, 1000 and 5000 having contrasting spots. I could live with it, but I would prefer all the chips being either/or.
  • Charcoal and purple can have some dirty stack issues (charcoal and lavender moreso), especially if lighting isn't great. Maybe try blurple for the 500?
  • 314 spots are the same price as 214, so that might be cool. Or, start with 114 for the 25, and move up to 414 for the 5K.
  • And finally, the orange/pink combo isn't great, as the colors don't have much contrast, and clash a bit. Maybe try maroon or white spots. Be sure to get a CPC color sample if you haven't already.

I changed it up. I originally had the small crown on the tournament set and burple for the 500.

I also kept the 214 across all colors for consistency of primary chip colors.

So I’ve been reconsidering the light green and charcoal edge spots and I’m thinking of going back to the green and black edge spots. It seems to me to look a little smoother, and add some darkness to the lighter colors of the 25 and 100 tournament chips. I also may go to the 3v12 on the white and red, then 4v12 ok green and black.
Still contemplating all of the options.

I really like the cash set. If my chips weren’t about to be pressed, I might have followed your lead. That $100 is gorgeous. I was toying with a similar pattern- it looks nice. Black/charcoal is close, but I think 2V12 and pink work. Have you thought about dayglo pink?

On the green: I like the light on dark better, matches the red pattern. Maybe dayglo on retro?

I actually liked the 112 on the tournament set. Maybe rotate it around the inlay every step? It was off balance, but there was an assertive elegance to the design.

BTW- CPC has a small crown run now and a large crown run next (I have an order in the large crown run). David said it might be another 6 months before they come around again, but worth asking.

Regardless of what you do- those are going to be two nice sets.

the 112 is really growing on me.

the dayglo colors didn’t seem to look that great on the designs.

And the dark green on the cash set was done on purpose for a couple reasons. White and green edge spots are darker, red and black are lighter. Another reason is it really differentiates the light green in the tournament set to the green cash chip.
