You are playing in an environment where you know most if not all of the players. Upon arrival at the table, there is one extremely aggro player, with an open seat on either side of him. Would you rather sit down on that player's left or right, and why?

I would sit to his left so I could get out cheap if i do not like his aggressive betting and trap the crap out of him when i do like it.

This. A couple of guys in my group are extremely aggressive. I happened to sit on his left SAT. night. I wasn't able to take advantage of his aggressive play. Another player at the table that was to his right did well vs him. Both like to gamble. I sat back and watched. Just couldn't get enough cards to stack off against him :(

Generally, in no-limit and pot-limit games, I'd rather sit to his left so I have position on him more often than not.

In a limit game, my preference may vary depending on the game and exactly what kind of aggressive the player is. Being OOP to a maniac can sometimes be advantageous in limit poker, especially games that often go multi-way to the flop.

Left but I agree with @Jimulacrum - limit games change things up a bit. Not always possible but I try to get a read on what kind of player the aggressor is. There's the sharp, selective aggressive player and then there's the aggressive dumbass. It can take an orbit or two to figure out which one you're dealing with.

Sitting to the aggro player's right may help if your goal is to spend the night trying to pick off the aggro player with check-raise.

If your goal is to play with the rest of the table, sitting to the aggro player's right is just going to eff you up all night.

Given a choice, I'd sit to their left... and you can still pick off the aggro player with a few late raises, until you tamp down their spirit.

Get some OWPS seating chips, problem solved!

I would choose the left.

The right has the potential to change my game too much.

The skill level of the player matters. If the LAG is skilled, I want to sit on his left and hold position. If the LAG is a LAGtard, I want on his right and let him raise up pots and trap all that juicy dead money for my check-limp / raise.

So I see a seat on both sides of Ben open, are the seats to the outside of the open seats bergs and guinness?

I think it depends on the way the table is going to respond to the Lag. If they are going to give him action, and we are going to play multiway pots, I prefer to sit on his right, just like in a limit game. If I'm going to play him heads up a lot, I'd prefer the left.

This very much! For a few years I played In a Sunday afternoon game that had an aggro just to be aggro kind of guy. I would always sit on his right so that when he bet I could get last action and squeeze a lot of dead money with 3 bets.

Against a decent aggro I want position to determine the best play.
