I just came across this, but I have heard of the tourney being held at the Hilton. I cannot validate the authenticity of this story, but it does go with other stories I’ve heard.
That’s just the first chapter.

These chips were then used for a short time in a California poker room, where iirc the owner was murdered for some form of degeneracy. Ultimately they were sold off in an estate sale.

My late father in law acquired the set of Cajun chips when he opened Bellucci House of Poker in Santa Cruz in early 1990’s. His card room was in business a short time due to his death. I sold what I thought was the entire set decades ago. In cleaning out storage recently I found more $1.00 chips mixed with $1.00 HC chips that were made for House of Poker. Some of those chips can be sent along. Some are showing dirty edges. I did not clean any of them.

That’s a nice score for a couple racks of $1s. The original buyer was/is a limit player, so he was never willing to part with the $1 chips.
