OK, so we have all probably bought chips before, and when they arrive, we are completely shocked by the lack of effort put into the packing job. We think to ourselves, "how could the seller POSSIBLY have cared so little about the hundreds (or thousands) of dollars of chips that I just bought from them, that they put THAT little effort into preparing them for shipment?" You with me? It's a little difficult to leave "feedback" about chippers who are just pretty bad chip shippers -- at least for me, I don't want to ruffle feathers. However, I do feel like the information should get out there, about those among us that provide less "protection" for the precious cargo. Negative feedback is hard to leave, but let's just say, there are some people that don't put in much effort, and this certainly weighs in my decision about future transactions with those people.

But today, I had an experience on the COMPLETELY other end of the spectrum. Today, I received some (awesome) chips from @72o, and I have NEVER in my life seen ANYTHING packaged with such care. It must have taken him hours to prepare this shipment. They could have been dropped from an airplane without a single flea bite occurring! Bullet proof doesn't even begin to describe this. To start, he created a box within a box - completely lined the inside of the MFRB with hardboard (think pegboard without the holes in it), cut perfectly to the size of the inside of the box. This was the most impressive shipping detail I had every seen! On the inside, the chips were rolled first in saran wrap, then the clingy wrap, then put between layers of cardboard, then wrapped in layers and layers of bubble wrap, then he taped the hell out of the bubble wrap. That wasn't enough. More layers and layers of bubble wrap, and more taping the hell out of that! Add in packing peanuts to fill the rest of the box, and then every inch of the outer box was covered with tape. EVERY INCH. Most boxes arrive dented, split open, in bad shape. Not this one. It looks like he hand delivered it -- perfect, perfect condition.

There was even a super awesome bonus chip included. Super awesome.

I was completely blown away by this effort, and I wasn't about to let it go unpublicized. There is pride in packaging -- I try to do a good job, and take time to protect chips. But my efforts look downright lazy compared to this.

Thank you @72o. The chips are awesome, you are a very good guy, and I appreciate very much the care you took to make sure the chips arrived to me in perfect condition.

Bravo.

Wow! Thank you so much for that very thoughtful write-up @liftapint...you certainly didn't have to do that. Like most of us, I cherish these little rascals. And these little rascals aren't cheap so I see it as I owe it to the chips and to you (the buyer) to do everything in my power to protect them until they are safely in your hands. I have heard too many stories and seen too many delivered packages that make me cringe so I always fear the worse.

You really dissected that thing huh? :) I don't ship often, but I started adding the 1/8" hardboard to my packages because it just makes me feel just a little more at ease. It's easy to cut and cheap and very strong. Plus I always have a couple sheets of it on hand for other applications (shims, backing for shelves, etc.).

And most importantly you are very welcome, Mel. It's interactions like this that make me cherish this community and this hobby. Thank you again for the praise...I truly appreciate it.
