Short version: Does anyone have experience adding inlay stickers onto blank ASMs (in particular, A-crest mold)?

Long version...

First off, a big thank you to everyone for the insane amount poker chip info deposited throughout these forums. You guys are my kind of crazy. I've been agonizing over my first big purchase for a few weeks now, and I'm torn between the two following options:

- custom ceramics from PGI
- no inlay, no edge spot ASMs

I'm on a fairly strict budget of ~$500 and I've decided I need at least 600 chips. Maybe you guys can help me decide...

The ceramics are cheaper and I love the art I have lined up, but you can't beat the feel of real ASMs and I do really like the aesthetic of chips with no edge spots. (In fact, my #1 choice would be a set of casino roulette chips in decent shape, but I'm having trouble finding them in the right quantity/price/condition.)

My main question is, if down the road I want to add inlays to the ASMs, is that doable? How much worse is the quality going to be? I don't want to be tossing a crummy sticker job on a beautiful quality chip.

I'm not a fan of putting stickers on clay chips. I've done it so I understand the appeal, but the end result will not be like a true compressed inlay clay chip. Maybe you don't really *need* 600 chips? Maybe instead get the real deal from CPC with (a version of) the art that you love.

We're all different in what we desire and consider good enough in terms of quality. I have a 2000pc Pharaoh's (China clays) and I wish they were Paulsons with inlays because every now and then one of my players will show me a faulty sticker. Usually just a sticker which has come off the chip and I either need to go replace it or glue it back on. Even though it is a rare occurrence, it's just a hassle I don't want and makes me feel like my chips are cheap rubbish, although they were not actually that cheap (to me).

If I were in your shoes and custom ASMs were not feasible due to cost, I'd go the custom ceramics I reckon rather than stickers on blanks.

P.S. I have absolutely no experience with custom labels on clay chips - just for the record.

I would like to think that my labels are of suitable quality to put on ASM/CPC chips (although factory inlays are always going to be better.) They will not fall off through normal use, although they will come off if you want them to.

However, David at CPC told me when I asked: "All blank [CPC] chips have flat surfaces. They can't be made any other way. You can't attach labels to our chips unless you have chips with inlays and remove the inlays."

So getting non-inlaid CPC chips now and adding labels later is probably not going to work, I'm afraid :(

My advice is get something cheaper that has resale value while you save for inlaid CPC customs. Then you'll get what you really want :)

Thanks for the input guys. I rethought my chip count and realized 500 would still be more than enough for the games we normally spread, and it sounds like putting labels on ASM blanks isn't a great idea since they're flat (thanks for the honesty Gear!).

Ultimately stocky is right...if I going to spend the money on ASMs, I should wait to get exactly what I want. My set in the calculator is now coming out to ~$620, and that's still doable (considering my deal with the wife is that I have to sell off some of my putter collection to finance this poker chip set...)

Thanks again for the help!

Putter eh, sell me a scotty c

I've got two Scotty's for sale if you're actually interested! I'll PM you the links :)

I figure it's not great etiquette to post them here, so if anyone else would like to see the links to the putters I'm selling, just let me know.
