I am starting a home game with between 6-8 people. What is the starting amount of chips each player should receive? I have $10, $25, $50, $100, $500, $1,000 & $5,000 denominations. So blinds would start at $10/$20. I have 100 of 10, 25, 50 and 175 of $100. 50 of the 500, 1000 and 5000 chips. I appreciate any help you can give!! Thank you!

Hello and welcome!

Unfortunately you screwed yourself already as $10 and $50 are essentially useless.

Take a look at the Tournament threads to get tried-and-true breakdowns for single and multiple tables. T25 and T100 bases are the most popular.

I see two quick options for 6-8 players, personally i'd drop the 10 and 50 denom but if your players are set on it then so be it.

t25
8x25
13x100
3x500
2x1000
5000 value initial stack with 1x rebuy per player

or T10
5x10
10x25
12x100
2x500
3000 value with several rebuy/addon options.

Some questions to consider:

* How long do you want the tournament to last?

* Will your blinds be long or short, with large jumps or small ones between levels?

* Is this a a freezeout (one buyin only) or will you allow rebuys?

* If a rebuy tourney, are your players likely to do so once, twice, more, or not at all?

* Will you offer an option to purchase an add-on of chips after the first 1.5-2 hours of play?

You can control a lot about how the game “plays” by your answers. How deepstacked do you want to play initially? How fast will the blinds be? How long will the average player last? etc.
