I recently decided to try and host some poker with a couple of my classmates but did not have anything ready so over the last few days have been reasserting and putting together all the stuff I need.

I specifically have questions about table construction, I am going for a hexagonal design as I am planning a relatively small home game and can make a table with 27 1/2 in sides out of a standard piece of plywood. The wood base is shown below, it is cut out of some 11/32 plywood and I have some siding lined up for the edge.

I specifically have questions about what kind of a foam is would work well?

I am going to be covering it in Speed Cloth but the table itself is probably going to experience quite noticeable changes in relative humidity as I am going to store it in my garage with relatively high humidity as I live in a rainy area and be playing in a room with basically no relative humidity. I can't keep it in the playing room as that room is detached and for the majority of the time has no climate control so it gets even worse than the garage.

The biggest problem I have though is that I need to be able to get stuff together relatively quickly so I can't mail order specialty foams as we are wanting to do a game for a friend as a sendoff before he gets his physical to qualify for military enlistment.

Generally I am looking at some High Density 1/4 foam that I can source locally form a upholstery supply company but am wondering if anyone has suggestions/horror stories about humid swings with less water resistant foams?

Thank you so much for your help and I apologies profusely if this is a repeat post, I was not able to find too much talking about humidity in relation to foam.

IMHO, unless you’re playing or storing in a sauna you’ll be fine and then all foam would be equally affected anyways. I’ve built many tables and designated table foam is designated table foam but not because of any additional resistance to humidity.

Thank you, I am just over tuned for the humidity because I have a few old acoustic guitars that don't really like the humidity swings. Thanks for the reassurance ill get some foam applied probably by the end of day tomorrow.

Yeah table foam and guitars are two different animals. Finish that table sir.

I don't play, but I know a guitar, especially acoustic, is a delicate animal.

A table is a table. Build away and think of it as the piece of furniture it is.

Best of luck finishing the table. Enjoy it and win big when using it!
