The Background: Through my job, I have a colleague (now a friend, we'll call him Paul), that includes me in his weekly poker game whenever I'm in town to work with him. It's a casual game among friends and in fact the game is run by another guy (we'll call him Nick) and the game rotates between their two homes. It's a tournament style, and both Paul and Nick have fold-up Barrington style tables, folding chairs, China clay style labeled chips (generic design) and nice plastic cards. The game is fun, but they keep a running points total during a "season" and will have an end of season larger tourney with chip stacks based on point totals. While it's casual, the players take the game seriously, keep to typical rules and protocols and even though it's a relatively low buy-in ($10 buy-in with rebuys and a $5 bounty), it is a competitive game.

None of that has anything to do with the request at hand, is just a little insight into the group. The group is made up of guys from different walks of life; a couple are retired, there are business owners, a social media guy, a doctor or two, a cop and my friend (we sell packaging). Plus a couple more that I don't know what they do.

The guy that runs the game, Nick, is the cop. As it turns out, on a typical shift some time ago, he was called to a local river to look into a report of a young lady that was supposedly intent on taking her life by driving her car into river. It was winter and cold. Nick and his partner responded, tried to assist the young lady and talk her out of taking the action she seemed intent on, but she went through with it and drove into the river with Nick & his partner hanging on to the car to try to save her. Long story short, Nick's partner was swept away by current and very cold water and he did not survive. Both Nick and the young lady miraculously survived, after Nick face some scary moments where he wasn't sure he would.

That was a significant event in Nick's career and life. Losing your partner is a traumatic event and Nick was not immune to that difficulty. After a period of recovery, Nick made a decision to start an organization to help other first responders that have suffered similar traumatic events in their career. The organization is called Restoring Responders. Website is below:

You can read more about Nick and the organization there. A large part of the mission of the group is to take first responders on an all-expenses paid week-long trip where they can be away from the job, be around others whom have similar experiences and receive therapeutic services and activities. Again, more detail on the website.

The Ask: Nick would like to include poker as one of the activities during the week-long retreats. To that end, he wants to acquire a custom set of chips based on the Restoring Responders theme. Neither Nick nor Paul are PCF members but I have encouraged them to sign up. In the meantime, I have offered to help bridge the gap to ask for assistance from our great community. What I'm looking for is help in chip design, most likely for a China Clay/Tina type of chip. I know there are several folks on here with serious skills and if this cause is something that speaks to you, please let me know. When/if a design can be developed, I would probably reach out to @justincarothers to place an order for Tina chips (or whomever is recommended). Thanks to all for taking the time to read this (assuming you got that far) and if you wish to help, please let me know!! Thank you!!

Any questions or suggestions, please advise.

That's a great cause. You certainly can't go wrong with @timinater. I would suggest reaching out to any of those great designers and getting on their docket. Once you have a design, maybe reach out to @rjdev7 about a custom topper for those Barrington tables. Best of luck and definitely following to see the final result.
