So, the new name is TEN (worse than Revel in my opinion), and is supposed to open soon! Will probably visit to pick up a rack or two of minty chips :D. Anyone knows when is the grand opening? Any idea what happened to the Revel chips?

No time soon. Straub has set several opening dates in the past and they have all come and gone. The building still has Revel ads on it.

Straub keeps fighting the casino commission and the City Council on a number of issues that really should have been settled months ago. He just thinks he's doing the city a favor by owning and possibly reopening the building, so he's trying to set his own rules. Quite frankly, with Hard Rock moving in, the City could probably care less about him at this point.

I'd be willing to put money on Hard Rock opening next Spring/early Summer before Revel even prepares a true grand opening date

Pretty amazing. I thought they are supposed to open up in the next few days/weeks. Any clue what happened to the Revel chips? I never played there, but assume they had decent chips.

Unless something has changed, NJ casino chips remain redeemable by the Casino commission, the casinos have to. Give the state a deposit or insurance on all chips, so that if a casino goes out of business tbe funds are there to redeem.
Chips certified destroyed get " the deposit back" .
That's why you never see AC obsolete sets available, and the chips sell for face or more ...
I would guess the Revel chips are either accounted for and being stored, or were destroyed.

The Revel had the most horribly lame chips.

The Revel was all about:

wonderful - perfect - great design - oops, ran out of money - empty, unfinished - cheap - lame.

At night, the entire center section of the tower would be dark. The top and bottom rooms were finished and rented out; the middle was unfinished space. (I mean, in the one tower that was built. Original plan was for two towers.)

They had two large concert venues; one would have concerts. The other never had seats installed.

The made a beautiful, open casino floor. The laid out the tables nicely, the chairs were great. And then they got these chips.

I do like the $1,000's. That big fat hat mold, or whatever it's called, without an obnoxiously-sized inlay, is mighty attractive to me.

eBay has some chips available. But yes as someone said above the DGE has a law saying chips must be destroyed. Trust me I've tried to get racks of Taj or Showboat chips. All gone. I'm lucky I have decks of cards from all of them.

Revel won't open for quite some time unfortunately since Straub wants to run his mouth rather than get paperwork done

There's a rule the DGE has were chips must be destroyed when a casino closes. Unless there is an imminent chance the place turns around a reopens with a new buyer. But that hasn't happened. And in that city, never will.

You're best chance when a building is closing is to walk in with cash and just get the chips straight from the cage. They're a little more willing to give you a rack or two then cause it's money for them and less they have to send off to be melted down

Revel chips by now are destroyed. Same with Plaza, Showboat, and Taj. Trust me I've tried to get my hands on them. All I can do is buy individuals off eBay. I even know someone who works with finances for all the buildings down there and I've asked about chips. He said everything is gone by now.

Only if they knew how valuable Paulson chips are... :D:ROFL: :ROFLMAO:

Those REVELS are some of the most boring inlays I've seen. One can only hope that TEN uses a little more imagination when it comes to chip inlays.

I actually like the color combo. I think the inlay is terribly boring but the colors are nice. I like em better than the Horseshoe's that were up for sale recently.

Straub announced yesterday that the new opening is June 15. Not the casino though. Just the hotel. Let's see if it actually happens.

Probably not. And for the first time ever, I agree with something our Governor did...he pretty much said sack up, get the permits and license you have to get, stop trying to right everyone, and open the building or sell the damn place and get out.

I couldn't agree more. Rather than try to think you're above every other casino owner, just get the licenses you need to finally open. Or sell the place to someone who will.

I have a feeling Straub will race to open before Hard Rock. But he probably won't

I loved the poker room there. A bit dark, but just very inviting, like a private club. Plus, you can order your friend (HDK) 12 hot dogs and they'll deliver them to the table and it's only like $30.
