Proper etiquette would have been to come back to the individual claims and allow them to match taking the whole lot prior to agreeing to the later claim for the lot.

OP did not do anything wrong, if you have fear of missing out, dibs the whole lot.

Every sale is similar to this, there's an individual rack/barrel/sample/ etc or a whole lot price, in most cases it goes to the person purchasing the entire lot.
