Gear and I thought you might like to see how some of this process is done.

Lets kick this thread off with the what I have taken to calling "The Curing Station".
Once your labels are printed, Gear likes to let the ink cure for a while.
Curing Station.JPG

  • If you are getting un-laminated labels, they are already cut into their little circles at this point. This is the last stop before weeding and cutting into letter sized sheets.
  • If you have sprung for lamination, these sheets are un-cut, but have registration marks. It seems like everything curing at the time I took this picture needed laminate. All those black dots on the corners are the registration marks the printer cutter needs to go back and cut after laminate has been applied.
Stay tuned for more behind the scenes posts on this thread.
Feel free to ask questions!

all right gear wifey !!!!!!(y)(y)

Thanks Gear Wifey. Looking forward to seeing the .25 cent Le Coves!

They're the sheet on the right, on the tabletop. :)

Hey! Aren't those my labels on the bottom?!?!

Yup.

The picture is a day or two old -- all of those labels have now been laminated and most have been cut. For cutting, the sheets go back into the printer, where the registration marks Wifey mentioned come into play.

and THEN???

I will take a few pictures of the next steps and post them too. :D
Expect to see those in a day or two.

I'll keep going with this too as I see things around the house we think you may be interested in.

Milling out inlays or hotstamps.

Well removing existing labels is the old tried and true method...Exacto blade, a steady hand, and a lot of patience.
It is a labour of love to say the least!

Here are a few teaser pictures of the milling method he is working on...

The goal is to have that new method announced before he goes to Mr.Tree's Hitching Post Shootout.
Gear will start a new thread on that once all the t's are crossed and i's are dotted.

:) - Will do! Now that Gear knows there is so much interest, he will come and find me to take pictures of various steps as they happen.
I don't want to hover, and I don't want to slow him down...

By the by, here is a picture of the tools of the label removing trade.
I say it again - Labour of love...

It's Black and White for a reason... ;)

i thought that utube video with the guy milling dice chips had a great idea...i have a hunch you have another idea based on the pic above?

Can't wait to get my solid thc labels figured out... samples gear sent me are great.

Looking forward to the milling announcement.

Great stuff Wifey, thanks for sharing.

It's also amusing to see that you have more "likes" than messages. You're the most popular person on the forum!

Will you be bringing extra luggage back with you for the chips I will be having you mill?? Much easier than shipping to Canuck land. Of course, we have not discussed this yet, but we will at the Post, or earlier.

We are going to say" The Start" is printing...

Here is a pic of Gear making some labels for his own personal use.
The big black box under the glass on the upper left is the print head. This also has the cutter as well.
You can see the roll of media (20" wide) in the back on the upper right.

This job is also another kind of start, because this was the start of the whole idea for the business!

Gear wanted these particular labels, and couldn't find any up to his picky standards for any kind of reasonable cost or volume.
He was working doing technical support for commercial printers at the time, so he had the skills but no access to the right tools.

So we planned, and plotted and moved in order to start making this idea a reality.
Because of the move, we had the space and the $$$ to invest.
And the rest is history...
