I need some help. I normally wouldn’t reach out to strangers but I don’t know where to turn, and I know this community is full of generous, noble, and trusting people. My grandfather (a WWII and Boer War vet) called me last night, on his 100th birthday. He’s not doing so well (with the blindness, syphilis, broken hip, etc.) but managed to make it to the phone to make a request of me. He used to spend afternoons at the 7 Cedars blackjack tables with his wife of 88 years who got hit by a train last friday (may our Nanna rest in peace). He said “Sonny, I think I’m not long for this world, and I want nothing more than to sit with you, and with a playable set of 7 Cedars chips (ideally for .25/.50 NLHE, no bike tires please), pretend we’re with our dear Nanna and play a few rounds. She used to love shuffling those chips while she enjoyed a Virginia Slim Ultra Lite 100 and a pint glass of gin. All we need is about 372 more chips (two racks of 1s, a rack of 5s, some fracs)”.
I didn't have the heart to tell him to go harvest them himself instead of pestering strangers online, so I said, “Poppa, that’s a tall order but I’ll see what I can do. Those things are rare, but maybe there’s some people with big hearts with these just sitting in their closets collecting dust. I’m a little hard up, with the farm being foreclosed and all, but maybe I can tap into Junior’s college fund, if it will make you happy in your twilight, Poppa”.
I contacted the Make-a-Wish Foundation, and they directed me to PCF, and said that surely someone here could make Poppa’s wishes come true. For what it’s worth, I think these chips are horrendous, what with the oversized inlays, terrible artwork, and boring color scheme, and have no interest in them myself.
Thank you in advance for your well wishes and consideration, and bless you, PCF.
