I had a pretty good SAT. night of poker. On top of my customs that I will have sometime in the next 3 years I've decided to purchase another set.

I've earmarked 500.00's for a 1 table cash set. I'll go somewhere between .25/.50 and .50/1 in stakes.

Leading the charge is the Mardi Gras chips. I'm contemplating a 450 chip purchase. The problem is this goes over my 500.00 budget. While I mull over if I want to extend my budget I'm going to embark on a chip shopping journey.

If you were buying set in the 500.00 price range what would you go with?

More chip pron the better btw.

If I go with the Mardi Gras chips I'm thinking of a .50/.50 game.

Chips: .50, 2, 5, 20 denominations. Trying to decide if my group could make that adjustment or not.

The adjustment from .25/.50 to .50/.50 is nominal. I did that a while back, and I only fielded a couple question at the beginning of the session, and a couple reminders throughout that the fracs were half dollars and not quarters. After that, a non-issue. So go for it.

I like the Mardi Gras. Can they be found in quantity?

Not the stakes I'm worried about. Adjusting to the denoms (no 1.00 chips, fuck'em if they can't figure it out).

As far as I know they have enough for what I would need. I am waiting for a response from the site via email I sent yesterday.

So, I also have experience with that. Tried to do a 1/1 game with only dollars and $3 chips. (Aces) The table bitched so much about it that I ended calling a break and swapping all the 3's out with fives from a different set. It was crazy. I was super-annoyed. This one girl literally threw out the wrong number of chips EVERY time she acted. It was so maddening that I sold the set. I'd loved it so much that I'd had some oversized ceramic 10's made, but I never used it after that (half) session...

Have you considered casino used? Also, are you sure you need 500 chips for a single table? My preferred breakdown for .25/.50 is:
100 $.25
120 $1
130 $5
40 $25
10 $100

400 chips... Though to expand up to 1/1 more 25 and 100 would be needed.

If I go with the Mardi Gras I'm going .50/50.

I would consider a Casino used set if I saw something that I liked. I don't need 100.00 chips. I prefer a few more ones.

A vintage casino set generally leads to budget trouble with fractionals. Fractionals are generally scarce and expensive. Perhaps roulettes could serve as the fractional chip - those are often the least expensive of all the vintage chips.

Total noob question here but when you guys say .50/.50 or 1/1, do you mean your cash game small and big blinds are the same? I've only ever played where one is half the other.

hmmmm, maybe I'll send an email to a few of the regulars to see if this is something they could adjust to.

Worse case, if I stay with the Mardi Gras set, I'll just have to get the quarters (which are a beautiful chip)

yes sir that is what we mean

If anyone has a cash set that they are thinking of selling, but haven't actually posted it yet. Feel free to PM me or post it here.

Since I am a regular in your game I'll chime in Bill. I think blinds of .50/.50 would make little to no difference in our game so no problem on the 50 cent chip. The problem I see is a $2 chip but no $1. I don't really see any advantage to this, I think it would be a bit of a pain in the ass. I would still play of course, but if I was spending that kind of money on a premium chip, I would not want a $2 as one of my workhorses!

I think the $2 chip is the most confusing.

I'd rather jump 50 cent to $5.

I keep contemplating a Mardi Gras set of those two.

Might add quarters and $20s to cover more stakes. I have twenty hundo plaques already that could work with.

I've been talking with a few people and this seems to be the consensus. Another reason I didn't want to go with the one dollar chip with the mardi gras set is the split edge spot problems.

I love the mardi gras theme. I think I'm going to keep looking.

I've wondered to myself if split spots would be something I could deal with. Those chips are so damn pretty, love the colors, but the split spots turn everybody off so much I feel like I shouldn't want them... But I think I could live with them if everything else about them was right. Hell, most of my friends would probably think that's the way they are supposed to be. I could tell them it's a "sandwich pattern, very specialized, level 92 I believe...". ;)

I already have the Samurai set that has ones that are messed up. I don't mind (only one guy has really commented on it, I know @mike32 can guess who). I don't "think" they would bother me a ton. I just really don't want to sets with fucked up one dollar chips.

Now, saying all that. I might just go ahead and get a .25/.50 set and roll with it. As you said, and I agree with. I love everything else about these chips. For some reason their not even to "busy" for me which is something that surprised my son when I showed them to him.

what would be nice is if some forum members would post a few more sets for sale to give me a few more options damnt

they look sharp. I'm not familiar with pricing or anything concerning these chips. I'd definitely consider them if they fit my budget. That one is sexy.
if you go Key West, you can always order extras from Dennis. I see this slippery road ending up with a CUSTOM CPC Cash set!

400 chip set, 10 player table, 80.00 buy in. .25/.50 blinds.

85 x .25
135 x 1
135 x 5
45 x 20

8 x .25
13 x 1
13 x 5
