first time i ever saw it in a new condo project, a high end place in Houston and it looked great, i didnt know what it was when i first saw it...i think they also put a slight sheen to seal it but not super shiney, maybe a semi gloss look or eggshell look....i tried it on an outside walkway and the weather ate it up, every few years i would have to re-do it
Finished concrete floors were used recently in an addition to our building. Units were able to choose between concrete floors and carpet. They chose the concrete floors because the samples and photos looked really cool. Living with the actual floors, not so much, so I've heard.
Yeah I don't think I would like it in the main living areas of the house but for the basement should be fine.
I have dogs that are getting up in age (and weight) and the oldest stoped going through the basement doggie door to go outside and started going on the carpet. It had to go.
I plan on using large area rugs down there so hopefully it won't be too cold/hard on the feet.
These can work out great or turn ugly fast. Do your homework on the contractor. Ideally look at work done that is years old. DO NOT take the lowest bid - you'll get what you paid for at best.
I have seen some remarkable work done. Floors that look like tile or wood but are concrete. If I recall correctly some types of work has to be done on fresh concrete.
Yes they are cold but no different than tile. I know of one home with radiant heating imbedded in their floor - something to think about if you were pouring new concrete.

Stain applied. I was told we won't be able to tell the true color until it dries. The different minerals and lime stone in the concrete makes it impossible to tell the color until it's dried. Also the top varnish will make a huge difference when applied tomorrow.
Hey that looks pretty cool. I have a stampcrete patio that i love. Its been 6 years now with zero maintenance. Once you seal the concrete/stain, theres probably nothing you'll ever need to do to it ever again. Very nice.
I really like the look with nice carpets. If I had any concrete floors in my mountain home I would do this. It would make the Quum and Persian carpets we have here pop on that floor.
I think your stain turned out great from the pics.
Another benefit is down the road if you hate it, tile or carpet easily covers it.
Second coat down. It's very hard to get a good shot due to the reflection of the lights. One last coat of urethane tomorrow morning and it will be finished.
That's what happens when it's your first build and you make it to where you can't take the base off. Hopefully it will be ready to take back its spot by tomorrow morning.
Last coat on just have to wait a little longer to let it dry well enough to get the furniture back in. 24 hours or so. It's hard to tell from the overall pic so here is a closer shot that shows one of the natural stress cracks the cement already had. Overall I'm very happy with it. Also has an not slip, additive to the urethane.
